It looks to me like highlight recovery at very high levels, the slight color change in the original gets amplified by the recovery and causes this type of effect.

dbmiller got a reaction from Mikehh in A7iii dual SD limiting write speed
The buffer clears at the rate of the slowest card. The faster card will write it quicker, but the buffer won't be released until it is written to the slower card as well. Which is why you see it clear faster writing only to slot 1.

Yep, in many of the earlier E-mount cameras the mount was definitely looser. As people complained of slight wobbles with lenses mounted, or light leaks coming from the gap, Sony started making the tolerances much tighter. You may have to work a little to get them on, but they will fit.

dbmiller got a reaction from Chrissie in Can my A7RIII get the 693 af points on it somehow?
No. The A7Riii sensor does not have that many PDAF points on it. It's a physical limitation, not a software one.

dbmiller got a reaction from manjeeno in First picture with new A7iii has shutter count of 2
Do you have the Electronic First Curtain Shutter on or off?

If off, the shutter fires twice for each shot - Once to reset the sensor, and once again to end the shot.
If on, the shutter fires once for each shot - The sensor is electronically reset to begin the shot, and only closes to end the shot.
If you're in silent mode, the shutter doesn't fire at all.

dbmiller got a reaction from christer in AEL Confusion
There are two different AEL functions, not sure which one is being asked about.
AEL w/shutter functionality. When not using item #2, you can control how the camera decides on the exposure when you press the shutter. In the camera menus, this can be set to AUTO, ON, or OFF. OFF - The camera sets exposure when the shutter actually fires. ON - The camera locks exposure when the shutter is pressed halfway. When the exposure is locked, the AE Lock light (*) appears in the display. AUTO - Same as ON when Focus Mode is set to Single Shot AF. Does not work (Self cancels) in Automatic AF and the subject is moving, or you take a burst of images. When the exposure is locked, the AE Lock light (*) appears in the display. The AF/MF/AEL switch/button on the back of the camera. When the switch is set to AEL, then the button in the middle of the switch can act as either a toggle or hold of the exposure depending on the camera settings. When the exposure is locked, the AE Lock indicator (*) appears in the display. You shouldn't see "AEL LOCK", unless someone messes up their terminology. AE LOCK or Auto-Exposiure Lock..

Yep. Those are the ones. The eye detect to turn on the EVF puts out an infared signal and is looking for the signal to be bounced back. The Light Dims will cause the sensor to be less sensitive so it won't switch over to the EVF unless you are much closer to the eye piece.

I use one of the small pieces and cover up the lower half of the sensor in the eye piece. Works wonders.

dbmiller got a reaction from Z√© De Boni in Strange burst mode, help!
adwb's suggestion was plausible. Sony has two multi-shot modes, where the camera takes multiple shots and merges them. One is the Auto-HDR method that adwb suggested, and the other is the mult-shot ISO mode. As you have discovered, you got into the latter mode.

It's real easy to accidentally hit the wheel on the right side bringing up ISO, and a slight spin at the same time would change it. This can happen while trying to hit the center button, or can happen when trying to spin the back wheel to change shutter speed or aperture, depending on your dial setup.

Just the right amount of sun to brighten up this long exposure of a small waterfall flowing into the headwaters of Stevens Creek in Cupertino California. The Heliopan Vr ND is amazingly sharp and color cast free even at 6 stops!
