  1. You mentioned that you don't do a lot of low-light stuff, so I think you might like the A7Riv. I shoot Nikon and Sony mirrorless and often run into lots of unwanted noise with high-ISO, low light on the Sony. I find myself going back to the Nikon D850 for low-light moving subjects, just because that camera does a great job of auto focusing in dim light. I first went to Sony for small, light-weight, etc., but soon realized that when you attach a quality f2.8 zoom to the camera, your back to a heavy, bulky camera. Have fun. When people tell you, "it's not about the gear" just remember that the "gear" does make some of us REALLY HAPPY.
  2. Happened to me once. Turned out there was a tiny hair triggering the sensor.
  3. Wondering if anyone has purchased the Westcott wireless system and using it with an A7rii or iv. My old Paul C. Buff lithium batteries are getting old and tired and I am tempted to give the Westcott a try, but they recommend buying a Sony adapter for the Sony hot shoe. Wondering if all the auto stuff (TTL, HHS, etc.) still works with the $20 Adapter?
  4. Started with Sony A7R when it was introduced, then A7Rii and now A7Riv. I was a Pentax then Nikon shooter for 30 years, but went to Sony mirrorless and prefer them now.
  5. Hello. I am trying to update my firmware on the A7Rii and have found the update has problems with MacOSMojave. I ran the patch that Sony provided, tried shutting down and removing the battery, etc. No luck. Any suggestions appreciated.
  6. Thanks so much for the info. I just changed my B&H order and got the Sony 128 G series cards, instead of the M series. I don't do a lot of video, but at least I am ready if I suddenly want to shoot video. I have never used compressed RAW, but I may consider it for shooting with this camera. When I shoot commercially, I always use uncompressed RAW, just in case I need to bring up shadows, etc. Thanks again for the excellent info.
  7. Hello everyone. I ordered a new Sony A7Riv last month and I also ordered two M series sony cards. Now I'm wondering if I need the faster G series. Anyone have experience with these cards. The new camera takes the UH 2 cards, so the cards are expensive. Any thoughts appreciated.
  8. I had the same issue and when I turned off the silent shutter, problem solved.
  9. The RX100Vii looks like a perfect street/always-on-board camera. 24 MP is plenty and the optics are probably good. The eye focus would be the deal maker for me.
  10. I'm going from an A7Rii to the new iv. Don't really "need" a new toy, but I guess cameras are my sports car/boat/time-share/motorcycle/etc. Be interesting to see if Sony can keep the high-iso noise at bay with all those pixels. They claim they can. If you can mention Sony and Hasselblad in the same sentence; that says a lot. I was a Nikon guy until the A7R came out and I have always thought that Sony was on the right track for new camera gear. Nikon and Canon seem to be obsessed with the past. I am hoping that by ordering on the first day (actually, the first hour) that pre-orders were accepted, maybe I can get in the first shipment. We'll see. Good luck, have fun.
  11. I have to agree the feel of the camera with a big f2.8 lens is a little cumbersome. I have sort of gotten used to it over the years. We travel a lot and the size of the Sonys suit us. I'm sure you will find a buyer for your Sonys. Have fun.
  12. I preordered from B&H in NYC. My wife and I have been using A7's since the first A7R came out. I'm a resolution person so looking forward to the new sensor. Anyone else considering?
  13. For portraits I would look at the 85 1.8. Good focal length for headshots. Most people are comfortable with people shooting their portrait from that distance.
  14. A7R, purchased 4 or 5 years ago, A7Rii, purchased 2 or 3 years ago. Just preordered an A7Riv.
  15. Like so many things, it depends on your priorities. I own the 16-35 f2.8 GM and absolutely love it on my A7Rii. I also drive an 11-yr.-old car and love it. They both serve my needs and fancies, perfectly. Yes, it is worth the $$$, if quality matters. Good luck. Happy shooting.
