  1. Thanks Pieter. I was thinking it was the shutter and was going to do tests with and without EFCS. When I first set this thing up I had it using electronic first curtain like most suggest but then I read somewhere that that can cause colour issues. And since I'm not happy with the white balance on this thing, I turned off electronic first curtain. One thing positive I will say about this camera - I actually like the shutter sound using full mechanical shutter. Cheers!
  2. OK, we all know I don't like my A6000 and am trying to sell it. When I purchased my A6000 I uploaded a jpeg to http://tools.science.si/index.php and it registered as 10. I have my file numbering to count sequentially on all my camera's so I know what the shutter count is just by the filename. So a couple of weeks ago I know I had about 750 clicks on my A6000 but tools.science website said it was about 1700 (can't remember the exact number). Took the A6000 on vacation with me and now that I'm back am going to get rid of it. Now the file numbering is up to dsc2004 but the tools.science website is showing 4762 clicks. What's up with that? Was going to use that website to 'prove' my shutter clicks if anyone asked for it but it's not accurate at all.
  3. Dude, I'm trying to sell this thing. About two weeks of NOTHING but lowballers and cheapskates trying to get it for 50 cents on the dollar. Said it before and I'll say it again - even trying to sell this thing echo's my whole experience of Sony - nothing but disappointment. Gonna give it another week and then sell it to the first person who shows up with cash in hand, even if that means selling it for under $400.- CDN. 2 months old and unless something happens quickly I'm going to sell it for about 50% of what I paid for it. What a joke.
  4. Lemme get this straight - Thom has a widely read blog, gets loaned and/or buys gear to test, openly puts his photo's up for all to see (and all the idiot armchair warriors to criticize), leads international photo expeditions, posts thought through and thought out opinion pieces, is knowledgeable about the state of the camera industry and on and on and according to you he's a pretender wannabe. You? You are a nobody anonymous poster hiding behind an alias with less than zero credibility and we're supposed to take it at your word that you are the real deal who knows more than 99.9% of the rest of us about the general camera industry by posting here defending a $500.- camera, do I have that right? You sound like someone living in your mom's basement that brushes her hair for her before she goes to bed at night while she tells you you're such a good boy, and take it for my word, I *DO* have a lot of experience dealing with people with mental disorders.
  5. So you bought a $1000.- camera and don't even know where it is? But here you are defending a $500.- camera? Riigghhhtttttttt. Seems legit.
  6. Hey @Jaf - Is it? It's definitely semantics but it is the sensor out of the 80D/newest Rebel's so he's not wrong. Just because he's open minded and doesn't bow down to the cult of Sony doesn't mean you should dismiss what he has to say. Thom is intelligent, backs up his opinions, has been around for years, has an informational blog, leads photo expeditions, takes gear outside and uses it hard rather than jump on the Sony free tour bus where Sony has lights set up and organized action, has amazing photo's posted, has a lot of experience with all the top brands so can make educated comparisons, etc... You would dismiss what he has to say and side with some unknown nobody with no experience/no photo's/no blog/no fllickr/etc just because they say Sony is the best? Your call.
  7. So what you're really saying is I'm right? Got it.
  8. Bythom isn't drivel, he knows more about cameras and the business than all of us combined. And he also one ups the vast vast majority of forum lurkers - he's not just a photo geek (and I don't mean that in a bad way at all) but he also takes amazing photo's. If I could afford it I'd jump at a chance to go on one of his Africa tours. 99% of the posters I've come across are just a bunch of couch warriors that have nothing but photo's of flowers, brick walls, their moms' cat or my personal favourite - pics of squirrels in the park. The majority of them don't even own the gear they're championing, just jumping from one shiny new objects specs to another. FWIW, this A6000 of mine is not only a disappointing camera, I'm having a hard time selling it. Have it posted on my local online classifieds so my experience of melting the button isn't known and all I've been getting is the cheapskates and lowballers trying to get it for pennies on the dollar. The Canon's and m4/3's I've had in the past I've all sold in days of posting the ad, with the Sony all I'm getting is loosers. Says it all and matches my experience with the camera. What do they say about birds of a feather? My lowest offer has been $225.- CDN (about $160.- US). At least it made me laugh. Something tells me I'm going to lose my shirt (relative as a percentage of purchase price) on this thing. Sony. Never again.
  9. Budget minded telephoto longer than the cheapo 55-210? Haha, you bought the wrong system. If you would have gone Canon you could have gotten the EF USM 70-300 IS for approx. just a wee bit more than what that 55-210 sells for and that would give you 50% more reach. Or if your budget is a bit more liberal you can get the Sigma 150-600 for about a grand give or take depending on your area and currency (don't believe the adapter hype - fast action and adapters are not your friend).
  10. You guys should check out one of Bythom's latest articles - http://www.dslrbodies.com/newsviews/the-year-end-comparitor.html Here is a copy/paste from that link, go check it out to read it in it's entirety (and yes I'm sure the coffee clutch letter writing campaign team is in full swing, how dare anyone say anything less than glowing about big brother Sony) - Liz, I'm sure if you haven't purchased yet this will be interesting to you... M5 or A6xxx? M5. Oh dear. Did I just hear my Inbox fill up with Sony fan hate mail? ... Meanwhile, Canon made the smallest DSLR you've ever seen. It holds like a DSLR, it shoots like a DSLR (even has a DSLR sensor), and it is controlled like a DSLR. They just put the already small SL2 into a shrink ray machine, tweaked a couple of things, and ended up with what has to be the smallest APS-C camera that handles well. ... And yet, the M5 is an example of where the sum of the parts is greater than the sum of the parts, while the Sony A6xxx bodies tend to be the sum of the parts coming up as less than the sum of the parts.
  11. Hey Jaf - yes, I did a LOT of research before buying it. Much more research than the price point would warrant but hey, I'm a bit of a geek that way There is just sooooo much MISinformation out there about Sony cameras. For example, you found the build quality is a step backward compared to your NEX-7, but one of the reviews I read in my research was this guy who states his NEX-7 felt delicate and the A6000 feels chunkier and feels more solid; https://blog.thomasfitzgeraldphotography.com/blog/2015/1/sony-a6000-first-impressions Then there's the battery issue - the guy above is making some ridiculous claims about how strong his battery is and even you had to pause reading that BS - 142 images in below freezing temps using only 4% battery? Riiiiggghhhhhttttttttt. If you believe him, he's getting massively better battery life in sub-zero temps then the rest of us are getting at room temperature. Nothing but nonsense. If you're happy and have warmed to it, bully for you but I am 100% not even remotely satisfied with it. Different strokes for different folks. Cheers!
  12. Hey Pieter - the viewfinder is exactly the reason why I am getting the M5 and not the M6. The lack of native lenses for EOS-M mount doesn't bother me whatsover, the 22mm and 11-22 are the only ones that I would want, and then use adapted vintage lenses for the rest of my needs. Cheers!
  13. Haha, according to you guys the camera is amazing and I'm the one so far in the wrong that I should leave the hobby. Having said that, something tells me I'm going to take a bath on this as a percentage of my original paid price in relation to it being only a couple of months old and 750 clicks. @Jaf - nothing wrong with those accessories at all, not sure what your point is?
  14. Hahaha, hey Angelaz, I like the way you just joined on Dec 18th and then immediately posted your 'review'. Because, you know, that's what normal people do, join just to immediately post a comment on a forum thread to defend a camera. Funny you said that about looking at cameras at various stores in your area. I was in Best Buy earlier today buying an xmas gift and was checking out some of the camera's while there. As soon as I picked up the Canon M6 the build quality and solidity of the camera was noticeable. They didn't have an M5 in stock, I asked but they were sold out so I could only handle the M6 but did it really feel solid. Then I picked up the A6000 which in comparison felt like the creaky plastic throwaway that it is. The A6300 and A6500 felt better than the A6000 but not anywhere near as solid as the M6. Anyway, my A6000 is up for sale as I am 100% going back to Canon but so far no takers. Sony... never again. If anyone is in SW Ontario, Canada and wants an almost new A6000, send me a PM. The sooner I'm out of this the sooner I can go back to Canon. $550.- CDN and that includes the 16-50, 2 extra Wasabi batteries/charger and Neewer grip, camera only has about 750 clicks on it.
