a7sii microphone input stopped working

Has anyone had this problem?  It started with a hum in the audio today and then stopped working.  Tried multiple mic setups and nothing.  Moved back to A7s and the same mic worked.

Update, sent to Sony repair.  I'll update if anyone is interested.  I think the wear and tear of plugging in an external mic finally took a toll.

I assume you've only ever used the one microphone you mention, and never fed the mic input from a line-out?

I burned out one side of a Nikon mic input stage when the output levels of my external audio feed got reset from -40 back to +0dB.

 

Did you use the little strain-relief cable caddy gizmo that came with the a7Sii?  I haven't tried mine yet.

Just happened to me too on an a7iii with a Rode videomic. Everything worked perfectly for about a month - then, one channel stopped working. Like it was muted, or not getting signal. But that was fine since it’s a mono mic. Now today, the mic input does not even register that anything is plugged in. Both channels default to the fairly worthless built-in stereo mics. Anyone else? Should still be under warranty - but if this is common I might rethink this purchase and return camera using my credit card’s extended purchase protection.

I never plug in ANYTHING without using that doo-dad. The USB & HDMI are the most delicate connections and constantly have a monitor and remote trigger using those ports. When running headphones & external mic I always use 90° right angle adapters. The cables themselves have weight to them and going straight into the ports stress them vertically. With the adapters hanging down if either cable gets stressed it pulls free of the adapter.

Did Sony repair your camera?  I have just encountered the same problem.  I have an A7riii that I've been using with a few different mics plugged into the external mic input for about a year.  This week the input on the camera stopped working with all my mics.  My second A7riii body still works normally.  Sounds like this input might be a weak point in the Sony camera body.

I use a 90 degree plug into the camera, but don't always use the small cable brace that came with the body.
