crwAlpha
Hi everyone, Tonight the LCD screen my A7RII went entirely haywire. It started happening when I changed my memory recall settings - the LCD just started jumping around and flickering wildly. The EVF still works fine and there is no impact to the shooting function as far as I can tell. But of course, losing the LCD is annoying and I'm on a long trip from home. Has anyone encountered this problem before? Sony said to send it in for repair but hoping someone might have insight of steps I can take before hand. I am considering doing the upgrade to firmware 4.0 but am nervous to do so. Thank you Sony Alpha community!

tizeye
I had similar with the LCD going out. Eventually discovered was the sensitivity of the viewfinder sensing my presence and revering to viewfinder. I would have it on a tripod, standing behind it, and the LCD would suddenly go black and I wasn't even attempting to look through the viewfinder. I eventually noticed that the viewfinder was and figured it out. Eventually had the LCD replaced but that was for a totally different reason (de-lamination). crwAlpha
I played around with setting in finder/monitor to ensure it was not that sensor - problem still persisted. And after a day of it being haywire the LCD has now gone black all together. I had similar with the LCD going out. Guest Jaf-Photo
It happens, either the LCD or EVF dies. If you're lucky, it happens with the auto switching active so you can access the menu. The EVF of my trusted NEX-7 died when the camera was set to EVF only. Tge camera was unusable until I got home and could plug it into the TV.

The switching saved me for sure otherwise would have been hopeless. Thanks for the thoughts - I'll seek an LCD replacement when I am back from my trip.
