Sony A6300 water drip shot

Recommended Posts

I’m trying to capture water falling off fish when the fisherman takes it out of the water. I currently am using burst to do it but the area of the fish and water falling is blurry. The fisherman takes the fish out of the water and I try to capture the water falling off the fish. Thank for the help

There are two reasons why images may turn out blurry:

  • The target area might be out of focus.
  • The exposure time might be too long to "freeze" any motion.

Of course, there may be a combination of both.

I would try to set the focus manually, before the action starts.

In addition, I'd use a sufficiently small aperture, to have enough "depth of focus" in the target area.

To really freeze the motion of falling drops/water, I would go for a short exposure time of 1/500 of even shorter. Depending on how much free fall you want the drops to allow to still be sharp and on how close you will be to the action. (The closer, the harder to freeze. And the longer the free fall, the harder to freeze also). The angular velocity of a ray of light from the drop to the lens of your camera is directly dependent on your distance from the scene, and the speed of the falling water.

Burst shooting is the rate of shots (how many shots per second), and does not affect the exposure time of each individual shot of a burst. The latter must be set independently.
