Shooting in cold weather, my a7rII rear display has gone out

Recommended Posts

I have been traveling in northern china for the past 12 days. I am often out for many hours at a time shooting in cold weather. The rear display on my a7rII stopped working about 6 days ago. Or at least it appeared to stop working. I keep wondering if I inadvertently disabled it.

As a longtime Canon user, one thing I dislike about this camera is the fact that just grabbing it in ordinary shooting situations can cause settings to be changed accidentally. For example, it is far too easy to unintentionally change ISO, display, and self-timer settings with the thumb wheel because that is the most natural place for your thumb to be when holding the camera and shooting.

Any suggestions about my rear monitor would be appreciated.

Does it work if set to MONITOR ONLY? If so chances are the IR sensor in the eyepiece is being blocked by debris or fuzz from camera bag/case. Slide the rubber eyecup up and clean the little window above the EVF. I modified mine to reduce the sensitivity of switching between EVF and rear screen using the Light Dims suggestion.
