Low Budget Monitor for 40€ HOW TO

Recommended Posts

Here´s a low budget solution if you want to use your Sony cam with an external monitor

in my case i´m using an A7II + Nvidia Shield Tablet + Photecs Tablet-DSLR-Adapter-Set "Basic" (Amazon: http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B00F0XS4O6?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00)

The Photec Adapter works on any standard hotshue and the build quality is very good and comes with an otg usb cabel

once you have mounted the tablet on your hotshue, just launch the playmemories remote app on your camera and on the tablet

you can set the app to manual mode and set also the camera to manual mode

it really works well but there is still a bit noticeble lag

what you cannot use is a picture profile in this app, thats a shame, i hope sony will update this app very soon!

But you can go to the options of the app and set color, contrast, sharpness to -3

when you have set the app to manual mode, you can even record video in ISO 200

The results when recording in this app and with colorgrading, sharpening in premiere cc is pretty good, i was very surprised!

I will post an example video soon

If you do know how to enable picture profiles in the remote app please let me know and also it you do know any other better app that works with sony like the amazing dslr dashboard, please let me know!

I also want to add:  when you set the resolution of the Liveview in the app to lowest settings, the lag is better, but still noticeable

Sony should also add a simple usb cable (OTG) support, the framerate on the tablet and the resolution would be much, much better this way then with wireless lan

now here´s my first testvideo i´ve done with this setup + a simple montana tripod + samyang 14mm

the first part is slog2 and second part filmed in the sony remote app with the tablet as monitor

grading done in davinci resolve, i can really recommend this, it handles slog2 very easy and very good

Great idea,, i have an old Android tablet that never gets used, I wonder if that would work? Does this connect through the microHDMI connector or the MicroUSB connector?   Does it drain the camera batteries faster?

it works with any android device, also smartphones

it connects with wifi, and thats the problem here, it would be much better with usb

if your tablet has a hdmi in that would be fantastic, but i guess there is still no tablet that has an hdmi in, my shield tablet has at least hdmi out for tv

doesn´t affect the battries
