24-70 f2.8 GM lens hood - can't rotate CPL when hood reversed

Recommended Posts

The spring load contraption inside the lens hood 9137 for this lens results in the hood being flush with the CPL when the hood is attached and reversed. With a CPL attached, I cannot get enough grip on the rotating ring to move it. On my Canon lenses, the hood for the same lens mounted in reverse was recessed by about 1/4" so the CPL was fully visible and I could keep the hood on and rotate a CPL that was attached. Is there an alternative lens hood for the 24-70 2.8 GM, aftermarket or SONY branded, that is just plastic and will allow a CPL to be used while mounted in reverse?

I have replaced all of my OEM hoods with rubber collapsible hoods available for about $6.00.  The one I have on my 24-70 2.8 vignettes at around 50 to 70 if the hood is fully extended, but collapsed it is fine through entire zoom range.  Two great benefits...it protects the end of the lens better than the brittle plastic hoods, and it makes it easier to use your CPL because the rubber hood becomes a grip for the filter.
