Cannot tether A7Rii with Capture One

Recommended Posts

I have the most recent version of Capture One Pro 10 and updated software for my Sony A7rii. I have never had problems tethering but now I consistently get an error box that pops up and says "The camera could not be attached".

I have tried several USB cords (they all worked before), I have tried all the usb ports (they all worked before), and I have the same problem on two computers.

My USB connection for the camera works perfectly on the computers for other connectivtiy and the computers recognize the camera that is connected.

I have my camera's USB setting on PC Remote.

I have turned off all camera provider options in Capture One preferences (except for Sony).

I am out of ideas there? Never had a problem until I updated my A7rii software a few weeks back. Thank you!!

So I found out the issue is not Capture One. It's the Macs. I can tether fine with PC's, but on any Mac it does not see the camera. I read somewhere that a USB hub may help.

Works with Mac & no USB hub required. Just hooked my A7Sii as tethered to Capture One Pro 10.1.1 on OSX 10.11.6 and it does its magic. Tried this on a 2009 Mac Pro 4.1 so there's a setting wrong on/with your setup. I thought maybe you need to use the Sony USB cable shipped with the camera but this even works with the cable that came from a a RavPower power brick. (Cable connected. USB set to PC. Cap One open. Turn camera on. Take pic.

I could always tether fine to Macs, until the latest firmware update. Now I cannot tether to Macs. I've tried PRAM reset, multiple cords, multiple computers, a powered USB hub, etc. I can tether perfectly to PCS, but not Macs. Everyone it says that A7rii "camera could not be attached". The weird thing is I can still connect the camera USB to Macs and share files and other stuff, just no tethering.

I started having this issue as well! I've tried everything.

My problem seems to happen completely randomly. I've tried reloading the firmware, multiple cables, the powered booster, reloading my MacBook with a fresh install of OS X, multiple Macs, multiple versions of OS X, and more.

I've managed to get it to connect a couple of times at random. I've gone through all of Capture One's steps for troubleshooting connection issues on their website.

Did you make any progress with this?

So, I figured out what my problem is after trying literally everything and getting to the point of wanting to chuck my camera out a window.

Google Drive's new software, Backup and Sync, automatically pops up when you plug in a new USB device. This pop-up was confusing Capture One. Quitting Backup and Sync immediately solves the problem and my camera is back to connecting like it used to. Hope this helps you OP!

Nothing like going through hours of software gymnastics to discover the simplest of solutions. Glad Google Drive's not mucking up the works on the 7 computers here.

Thanks for finding this. I can't believe that was causing the problem. I had to launch the old RemoteCameraControl, get the camera to connect, shut down RemoteCameraControl, then open the new Remote program. So glad you found and shared.

Wow I just saw this after weeks and weeks of being of torubleshooting, software updates and phone support. Such an easy fix. Thanks for the help!

Hi All!

Please help, I'm also having this issue with a Sony A7RII, not tethering properly with Capture One 10/11..

Depending on wether I turn the software on before the camera etc, or who knows what invisible magic... I can sometimes get the camera recognised in Capture One about 50% of the time, but Capture One won't receive the images into the capture folder.. We got it running properly the other day and then just kept working fine tethering and loading the images into the Capture folder for the rest of the day.. Today however, no matter what we did, Capture would not load the RAW images into Capture One..

We've tried several different cables, different sequences of turning each thing on etc, and to the previous suggestion.. No, unfortunately I don't seem to be running any Google 'Backup & Sync' software!! I don't seem to have any Google software except Google Chrome installed..

This totally killed a photo shoot today, and made us look like fools! The Canon cameras tether perfectly fine every single time!!

Any ideas?!?!?

Things to try; Make sure that you are using Sony cables (I've heard of issues with using 3rd party cables for firmware updates so maybe the same issue exists with tethering).

Try upgrading, CaptureOne 11.01 is the latest version.

I just tried it for the first time with my a9, set USB to PC Remote and connected it to my MacBook (High Sierra) and it showed up immediately.

Google Drive being the hint here, but NOT installed on my Mac, I tried quitting Dropbox, and VOILA! it did the trick. Kind of a shame Sony's software is that buggy. I have of all the latest Sony software and driver on Mac OS High Sierra installed (Mac OS 10.13.6), running on a late 2013 Mac Pro.

If that doesn't work, think of a third party software that "could" steal the USB connection of your camera and quit it, it did the trick for me.

Cheers

Not sure wether it is too late too answer. I have this problem too. Sometimes it works but sometimes not. It really frastruting.

Then I used the inside app remote control, it works perfectly for camera and iPad. Really convenient. But if you want to change settings in Capture One, then you are not able to do it.

Close Dropbox..

Starten Sie dann Remote erneut.

Having switched to Sony from Canon I spent ages following all the advice on this page on both Mac and PC before relalising the I had previously set Capture On preferences to Canon cameras only. Switching Sony back on fixed it for me! Just thought this might save others from the same ignomany!
