Plastic covering came off bottom-A7S

Plastic Flap-covering on bottom -near the battery cover has started to come off, its hanging on. It seems that it somehow got loose and I can't seem to wedge it back on.

I could unscrew the side panel and lift it back in, which scares me. Second option would be to cut off excess and glue it back on.

Anyone else ran into this problem?

I had exactly the same problem, not only that

rubber corner panel but also the card access

door. And yes, the rubber somehow seems to

have swelled up so it doesn't fit into its proper

location anymore.

I used Gorilla Glue. This is very risky if you're

lacking in patience and craftwork skills. I have

a very satisfactory repair, definitely better than

new in terms of durability, but not cosmetically.

Gorilla Glue was chosen cuz when it cures it

remains slightly flexible and cuz it expands to

fill gaps and voids. Also it has strong adhesion

and the nature of Sony's materials demands a

powerful adhesive ... which is why it fell apart

in the first place. The plasticizer in the "rubber"

and maybe also the hard plastic parts resist s

adhesives. I cleaned all surfaces with strong

solvents to remove residue of the failed Sony

glue, and any plasticizer at the surface.

The procedures and precautions are beyond

any reasonable attempt to describe here, but

I'll say it ate up a few hours of 3 consecutive

days, some release paper  from a roll of self

stick labels] and a few Xacto blades. NOT for

the faint of heart, NOT for the impatient, NOT

not for anyone who's never done similar jobs.

In case it's not obvious, the game plan is to

secure all the rubber, edge to edge, without

gluing the door shut ! ! Thaz why you do the

work in small incremental steps.

Despite my having clearly stated that this can

be a risky project, others will post warnings of

the risk anyway. So take heed !
