A6500 or A7rii For Video in Europe

Recommended Posts

Im heading to Europe in 10 days for 3 weeks.  Going to a wedding and then some sightseeing.  Museums, historical places, hiking, cities, etc. etc.

Currently have an A6500 that I use with a Zhiyun Crane gimbal and the video is impressive but theres alot of features about the camera I HATE!  screen is way too dim in sunlight, battery life sucks, EVF is a little too small for my liking, rolling shutter I can deal with but it can be annoying.  I have the meike battery grip although it doesn't really work well on the gimbal.  I will have to resort to using USB powerpacks with each option

So I've read a bunch of reviews comparing the A7rii and A6500 for video and the A6500 has a slight edge with its focusing system.  However, recently I started thinking about a benefit the A7rii has, and thats the ability to switch between FF and crop mode when shooting 4k.  This would allow me to get different FOV's without having to change lenses!  With my A6500 I generally use the 10-18 wide angle lens set to widest.  Sometimes however I want to zoom into something that is moving away (like a car I spotted) and dont have the time to switch to my 18-105 pz lens and re balance to gimbal.  Whereas in theory, with an A7rii I can use something like the FE 16-35 F2.8 G lens to still get a nice hyper-wide 16mm and then switch the camera to crop mode and zoom in for an effective 52.5mm normal FOV.

Any input? money's not really a determining factor either.  I'm really looking forward to the A7riii or whatever the successor to the A7rii is.  In the long run I don't think I will be satisfied with the sony crop sensor cameras and lens selection.  Just stinks that at this time, the A6500 is more or less the king of video aside from the A9 which is unnecessary for me and a little out of my budget.
