selecting a 35mm lens

Recommended Posts

I am trying to choose between the tamron 35mm f1.8 and the sony 35mm f2.8...

can anyone offer advice? the sony/zeiss f1.4 is tempting but it looks enormous...

i like the closer focus on the tamron and the smaller size of the sony...

itll go on an a7rII

any thoughts?

thanks!

The Sony/Zeiss 35 2.8 is the winner if small and light is very important to you. I had it and sold it in favor of the Sony/Zeiss 35 1.4, which is very sharp, bokeh is fantastic IMHO, and renders nicely; to me the Sony/Zeiss 35 2.8 renders a little "clinical." Obviously I chose IQ and speed over size and weight.

I currently have both the 35mm 2.8 and Zeiss 1.4 and like Jimmy prefer the tiny form factor and wonderful sharpness and rendering of the 2.8.  The 1.4 is a hefty piece of glass and it's primary advantage is wonderful bokeh and image isolation.  If you are shooting landscapes the 2.8 makes more sense, at least to me, and will save you $$$$.
