Here's another from that night, 13May2015. Taken from the flight deck looking at the fantail. Most sailors have amazing memories of looking into the sunset. This is one of mine.

Incredible Bryan, ive taken shots on boats before and its not easy, especially smaller craft.

You should get some printed one day.

Thanks. I do plan on getting one of these printed out. This sunset is one of the best I have seen at sea. Unfortunately I will not be home for quite some time. But, in the meantime I'll be posting my adventure here in the forum. Yes, you are correct. It is not that easy shooting at sea. You have a lot of timing to do with the swells and movement of the ship.

@foto-fanatic Post some of those sunset pix up here! Yes, the ship takes some getting used to.

I shot these today with the kit lens.

We tested out the fire monitors earlier today. They are used on board in case of a helicopter crash on the flight deck and are remote controlled from a space directly below where I was standing.

Laying some down range today. Was super excited to be able to shoot during our gun shoot today. I used the 55 - 210mm lens for this shot.

Look at the size of those spent shells!!

Imagine a p-51 mustang during ww2.

3-.50,s in each wing, can you imagine the recoil, i remember hearing of a ww2 pilot telling how he was on the way back from a raid in germany and had some ammo left and saw a train, opened up on it with all 6 .50,s and it blew the carriages right over!!

Is that a quick release lever under the barrel to dismount the gun if needed i wonder?

How hot does the barrel get, can you warp it, i imagine you would have to burst fire to keep temps down and accuracy up?

Birds eye view, love the shot.

Thanks^ Just want everyone to see what we, USCG, do and also show the capabilities of the A6000 in a completely different environment. Plus I get to practice honing my skills at sea. Not to many people get to do or say that. Here are some pix from the past few days. The first one is when we anchored in Acujutla, El Salvador. The second one is of our small boat being photo bombed by a dolphin.

Two pictures of our small boats that we carry on board the ship. We routinely launch these boats to conduct training, search and rescue cases and counter narcotics interdiction.
