A6500 External Monitor and 4k?

My wife has a blog and wants to dive into making some youtube videos and was thinking about picking her up a 6500 for that purpose but since she will be shooting herself, I figured a monitor would help her out. I've read a few comments that are from earlier in the year that you can't use an external monitor when shooting 4k as the camera shuts off the monitor. Is this still not possible? I was planning on using an external power adapter instead of a battery as the camera will be stationary most of the time. Thanks!

No, it works in 4K, I just used it for that now. I use a Viltrox DC-50 and if you set the 4K video mode to MR2, you can even use the touch screen for touch focus and see it change on the external monitor! The touch screen will only show the settings, but also shows the focus area so you can choose the general area on the screen and it will faithfully focus on that point.

 

This does not work for HD though!
