Marketplace for used bodies, lenses, and accessories ?

Recommended Posts

To our Admin, and all interested people

Why doesn't our forum have a marketplace for Sony Alpha stuff offered and wanted? Even the Systemcamera Forum has one. Would it possible to make a poll for the members whether they like that possibility ?

Potentially a good idea - problem is that people invariably over-value their items and ask inflated prices. From the sellers perspective it is also a more limited market than, say, eBay.

But an active marketplace (particularly for lenses I think) could be a useful addition.

I follow another forum where posting stuff for sale works well. With time members learn who they can trust and develop friendships. When someone has something to sell, they usually let the forum members have a shot at it before they post it at ebay at a higher price. If they have a good reputation on the board, they won't want to blow it by ripping off an other member.

I'm unable to share your concerns.

"Invariably over-value" ? Nope. The buyer side of the equation

usually causes the seller to become more "variable".

"Limited market" ? Nirvhana in that ! Seller listings in forums

attract almost as many legitimate buyers as you'll get on Ebey

or Craig's List. The response just looks a lot smaller ... cuz it's

blessedly minus the Nigerians and the Chechens and such :-)

My sympathies to the good folks who have to live amongst the

many scammers who give those countries a shady reputation.

Marketplace question/suggestion:

For example the MusicMan Guitar/Bass site allows

only MusicMan products ... explaining that they are

the ONLY manufacturor-sponsored site that even

has a Buy-Sell section.

That is a false explanation. Frinstintz, the Warwick

Bass/Guitar/Amplifier manufacturor-sponsored site

allows all brands.

The 2nd approach [Warwick] makes sense. Plenty

of players use multiple brands. Some want to sell

an "off" brand to fund purchase of the sponsored

brand. Some want to buy or sell music items that

are not even the type of instrument that's built by

the sponsor. IOW, neither MusicMan nor Warwick

builds horns, drums, keyboards, etc. Warwick will

allow those items, but MusicMan will not.

OK, case presented. What's the rule here ?

I have no objections to other manufacturers' gear in the Classifieds.

But:

Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here…

Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members!

When the ads roll in and we have some traffic there, I'll add something like „other gear“.

But I hate services with gazillions of sections with a great inner logic - but without content.

OK?

Andreas

Will this be limited to Sony gear, or will be able to buy and sell equipment that is useful as part of a Sony kit, such as lenses from other systems that can be adapted to the E mount? I'm in the process of selling a few lenses, and being able to provide samples demonstrating their results on a Sony body might make the ads more interesting and useful for this site.
