Strobe recommendations with A7Rii?

Recommended Posts

Anyone using portable strobes with the A7Rii?

I want to get a battery powered strobe, at least 500WS, with TTL for use in-studio and in the field, and I'd like to keep everything needed at $1K or less, if at all possible.

I've been looking around, but it seems Sony compatibility is a huge limiting factor.  Makes it hard to completely transition to Sony!

Have made costly mistakes in the past, and don't want to keep doing that, so I would appreciate all suggestions.

Thanks so much!

I found it very difficult to find any TTL triggers for my Sony and PC Buff Einsteins.   I finally bought the PC Buff Cyber Commander trigger and use the small receiver that plugs into the Einsteins.   It's NOT TTL, but I have gotten used to this set up.   I had previously used Pocket Wizard Trigger and receivers for my Nikon camera and Einsteins, but they became very unreliable in the field.   If you can live without TTL, the Einsteins are 640 WS, very lightweight and rugged.   I have four of them and shoot outdoors a lot with the PC Buff Vagabond batteries.   System works well, if you turn off the modeling lights to conserve battery life.   Einsteins are about $500 Each.

The Godox/Flashpoint xplor is 600WS.

Be careful on purchase, because it is also made in a non TTL version, but packaged with the TTL transmitter.

They also make an excellent speedlight.
