Is the SEL 55-210OSS not suitable for action photo?

Cool. Don't forget to test both lenses with OSS completely off. Even the panning mode is not failsafe. Handling is still important and turning stabilisation off will help you improve your technique.

( P.S. For shrubbery photography, both lenses seem to do a decent job ;)

First test of the FE70-200 F4 was a total sucess ISO 100, 1/160th sec, now it is time for hardcore panning practise!! :)

So yesterday I finally bought a mint second hand FE70-200 F4 G OSS and here are a shot that compares the performance of the 55-210 / 70-200 the shot is with the same aperature, same iso 400 and same shutter speed 1/160th

55-210:

70-200:

Not very much differences to see, except that the 55-210mm ist an little bit darker, which can be easely corrected in post!  I have also both lenses, and I am very pleased with them, but I am using the 55-210mm more, because of its size and weight on my A6000!

I'd say the 70-200 image is noticeably sharper than the 55-210. I've been playing around with my new 70-300 FE and it's the same story only more so, to my eye anyway.

It's a big lump to get used to after the 55-210 though, and looks huge on the little a6300....

It is hard to have it all ways...size, weight, speed and image quality are usually linked so compromises have to be made.  I have had both the 70-210 and 55-210 at the same time, and without question, for me, the 70-210 was far superior.  Constant aperture, fast AF, sharp images,  and what I felt was relatively light weight make it a joy to use.

i have to say, though, as long as you don't expect miracles, the 55-210 is a worthwhile lens. The general IQ is quite pleasing and it's small and light. It can be had quite cheaply too. I think it's a given lens if you use APS-C E Mount for a compact travel kit.

    • I recently got an a7cii and to pair with the compact body, I thought of getting 2 of the trio compact lenses, 24mm F2.8 and 40mm F4.0. (I already have a 70-200mm) However I stumbled upon the newly released 24-50mm F2.8 G. I'm not sure which to get - I like the small factor of the prime lenses ON the body because it's discreet and helps me blend in as an average tourist / doesn't make it obvious when doing street. But if I add the dimensions of the 2 primes together, it takes up more space in the bag than the zoom lens. BUT THEN, the weight of the 2 prime lenses is 110g lesser than the zoom lens. The zoom lens has the added benefit of being more versatile.   So now I'm stumped. Each has their pros and cons and I can't decide which to get. I'd like to hear the views of you guys who are more experts at this.   Edit: I'm a bit concerned about weight because the last time I went overseas my shoulders were aching from carrying too much. Which is why I was looking for small compact primes in the first place.
    • Hi, I have got a6300 which shutter stopped working. I managed to change shutter but unfortunatelly broke shutter motor tape but I fixed that. After repair the shutter is working but not in a proper way, watch with sound. I bought the second shutter and tried to test it before dissaembling again and it doesn't react to magnet but it works fine when I apply 3V. Are there different type of shutter for a6000 - a6400? Back to the question what is wrong with my shutter after first repair? I don't want to put next shutter unfoundedly. Do your sony cameras perform such a self-check after start up?  IMG_5579 (1).webm
