Searching for advice on 7R (i) "best" settings

Recommended Posts

Hi, I own a Alpha 7R. Will be using 70-200 GM lens tomorrow (at a graduation ceremony) for the first time with this body
(owned a Canon 70-200 lens way back).

I plan to shoot in manual mode (125, ISO 800 don't know if I should go higher / assuming poor light condit.).

1. Can you suggest "best" settings: Focus area, Metering mode etc.

2. When I select Manual mode and try to select the Flash Off option I get the prompt:
This operation or setting not available as follows: Shoot Mode Manual Exposure
How can I fix this?

Any other suggestions much appreciated.

Thank you.

"Flash Off" prevents automated modes from

self-choosing to deploy the flash. In Manual

mode you can't choose it cuz it doesn't apply

.... IOW it has no purpose.

As to your other concerns, as you already

learned from your earlier use of the Canon,

there are no "best settings".

Maegis, may I offer my welcome to you, and,as you I am totally new to this art. You sound to be attending a very important event and if I were you I would put my trust into this new technology and allow it to produce images for you in an automated way then at least you stand a fair change of getting some decent results from your labours. I would say that, by all means, later when the results are not so important, is the time for experiment, in fact, I am doing just that myself having newly acquired a Sony a7R ll. In film terms I would normally shoot B&W film in either 50/ 125 or 400ASA using manual focus and manual metering and if the sun shines then you can always adopt the sunny 16 rule.
