A7ii image size in photoshop

Recommended Posts

Hey everyone,

I recently switched from canon to sony and bought the a7ii, so I'm still new with all the camera functions. I changed all the settings to where I want them (RAW, uncompressed) but when I upload the images to photoshop, I noticed my images automatically come out size at 16.4X10. I find that weird because when I use my Canon 5Dii, my images in photoshop will come out to 21.6X14.4.

Is there a function setting I'm missing on my a7? If so, what do I need to change?

I've added 2 images to compare the image size on both cameras:

Canon 5Dii

I am new to both the camera and Photoshop? How do you save as a JPEG of a suitable file-size that can be downloaded to, say, this forum. I am just getting messages saying image tool large to download?

This forum does not seem to have a software section, so sorry for tagging this onto your thread smilewtf but couldn't find a suitable location?

My guess is you have set Adobe Camera Raw (the windows that pops up when you open a raw in Photoshop) to interpolate down your files instead of opening them at native resolution. And you set a bigger interpolation for the Canon. Just look at your screenshots, the Canon is 18mp and the A7 II 10mp (the Canon shoul read 21 and the Sony 24; multiply width by height to get the value in megapixels)

To set CameraRaw to open your files at their native resolution:

- open a raw file (you will have to do this once for each camera because the preference is camera-specific)

- click on the bottom, where it says something like "Adobe (or Prophoto) rgb; 16bit; SIZE IN INCHES; 240dpi"

- in the preference window that it will pop up uncheck "Resize to fit"

Done!

Not a PhotoShop user but there is probably an EXPORT style or something that lets you specify the resolution. Typically I use about 600-800 resolution (longest edge) for uploading photos to this site.

Almost:

- first you need to reduce your resolution with "Image > Image size..."; choose anything from 800 pixel to 1500 (for the longest edge)

- then you export for web (not the same as "Save as...", it will cut a lot more weight) with "File > Save for web..." choosing one of the jpg presets (I prefer high)
