Lens advice for landscape needed

Recommended Posts

Hello!

A part of my current equipment has got "lost" (stolen). Now I´ve to order new gear. I´m thinking of upgrading to Sony A7RII. I own some Canon (16-35mm, 24mm, 28mm,35mm, 50mm) and Sigma lenses for landscape. Do you recommend it by using them with an adapter, or is it neccessary to buy Sony/Zeiss lenses? Which adapter to buy? And which lenses, if I have to switch? (Maybe first an wideangle zoom and an prime around 24,35 and 50mm)

Thanks

Thomas

I have the Sigma 25mm f1.4 Art lens (Canon mount) and use it with the Metabones IV adapter.  I also use the Canon 70-200 f4L IS lens.  Both lenses work really well with Metabones IV and A7 bodies.  There have been so many firmware updates over the past two years that non-Sony glass works really well with Sony bodies.  I wish I had not sold my Canon 24-70 f2.8 L II lens.  But no looking back.

The only downside is the Metabones IV weight about 5 ounces.  That does not sound like much, but some of that glass is heavy to begin with and an extra 5 oz adds up.

I see the A7r2 came down $300 in price today, apparently a permanent cut by Sony. To do that 42MP body justice, I would go with all native Sony glass; most people use the 16-35/4 plus 55/1.8 and maybe one of the available 85's or the 70-200/4 zoom.  I prefer primes mostly, but that's just me..
