sonee
Enough about the numbers. Let's talk business - how many of the 693 are really cross-type, high-sensitivity points? Or only a small 5% of the centre frame is covered by such high precision points? Also, can all 693 points be used in 4K video mode? How is the 25% improvement in AF calculated over the A7Rii? Also, the silent mode can output in 14-bit uncompressed raw too? Or is it only the mechanical mode, just like a7rii? Lastly, why not put in the touchscreen for a $4000 camera? It can still be useful for single-frame mode, for AF selection etc..

Being hung up on type is being mired in the past. If I understood the video correctly, there really is no mechanical mode. It has no shutter, altho it can make synthesized shutter sound. EDIT: Just found some more complete spec data. It DOES have a mechanical shutter as well. IOW it has both types of shutter. It does have a touch screen, but only for certain operations. Makes sense. Full function touch screens are counterproductive. You've asked questions, number-centered, spec- centered questions that are cynical and doubtful. Given the nature or marketing hype, I don't blame you. I often feel that way. But you haven't asked any questions about capabilities, about whether it has any remarkable user-enabling features. Just as a frinstintz .... mebbe it has the typical Sony sweep pano feature, just by default cuz it's a descendant of other Sonys. If it were actually a user-enabling advance, it would be similar to my friend's silly little Pentax P&S: Instead of a sweep pano function, the user starts up the pano function and then takes a series of individual shots, which will then be knitted into a pano upon completion. This is a method that, transposed to an advanced camera, is vastly superior to sweep ... is actually USEFUL instead of "barely amusing" .... which is would be a charitable description of sweep pano. Thaz just ONE example. There are numerous things that can make a camera a much more user-enabling device, and these are things not represented by numbers. Sony claims the AF will very reliably track any target over the entire frame regardless of eratic target motion. Myself being often cynical, let's see them prove that. It doesn't matter at all how many of which type of AF detectors are on the sensor .... it only matters whether or not the AF actually performs the way Sony is bragging that it will perform !
