iouzzr
Hi there, I accidentally drop my loxia 85 lens hood onto ground , after some observation, I found it is notched on the left side(which I think is the side directly hit to ground). The hood is OK to be mounted on lens, but I am afraid of vignetting after some reading on web. I'm not with the lens and hood by now, but very worried... Do you have some familiar situations like this case? Will a damaged lens hood cause severe vignetting? Thank you. I will test vignetting once I am with the lens

Username
To be asking such a question as you ask, I wonder if you have a different meaning for the word "notched" than what I would understand. To me, notched would imply a loss of some of the material, like a small piece of it broken off. Obviously, if some small piece is removed, there is no reason to expect the hood to intrude into the field of view, since it did not intrude before it was damaged. JCC
The purpose of the lens hood is to minimize stray light, and control lens flare. If the damage is a dent, it is possible that it would add some slight effect to the edge of an image, but it would have to be a really bad dent since the clearance to field of view is usually generous. if the hood is plastic you can dip it in boiling water to soften it, and push it back to shape. tinplater
Wow, you worry about vignetting as if it were a disease! The obvious answer to your post is to put the hood on the lens, take some shots and see if there has been an impact on on the corners. I can't imagine anything short of a major disfigurement of the lens hood would result in any issue.
christer
....... I will test vignetting once I am with the lens Test the lens too. I would be more worried about lens performance after a fall than l would worry about vignetting caused by a lens hood "notch".
