sync cord

Recommended Posts

Hello, all! Sorry if this has been discussed on here already. I am new to Sony, having just purchased the 7R2...been a canon shooter...wanting to shoot video, too, so this was a good choice for me. I know about the adapter to use my canon lenses on the 7R2, but I'm wondering about using my Phottix speed lights and transmitter on the Sony...is there an adapter of sorts? If so, would you pretty please pass along a link? Thanks in advance!

Until then, I can use a sync cord to my mono light...I ordered a cord through BandH (after "live" chatting with one of their employees), but it's not compatible. I was looking for a cord that I could use for my Canon 5dmark2 AND my new Sony...again, a link would be so appreciated, as I am not a technical person and my head is about to explode! :  )

Sony uses a proprietary connection on the front of the hot shoe. The hot shoe itself is standard, so any cord and shoe will fit However it will only work as a dumb trigger, meaning it will only fire the flash nothing more. What you need is a https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1176894-REG/vello_ocs_smi3_off_camera_ttl_flash_cord.html  cable like this. (I take no responsibility if it doesn't work)..... :-)

I have that very cord, and it works perfectly with my A7rII and nissin/Sony flashes with the new shoe.

2 things here:

- To use a synch cord for Manual flash, all you need is a regular hot shoe adapter like this: http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Travor-Hot-Shoe-Adapter-HC511-for-Sony-A7R-A7S-Camera-MI-Interface-to-Canon-/142090596307?hash=item2115426fd3:g:LTsAAOSw65FXts4A

This will be  simpler fit since some so called universal adapters do not fit properly and need to be modified to make proper synch contact with th body.

The fact that you can connect a Canon flash does not however allow TTL or any advanced functions since the Sony flash language is different from the Sony and is also different from the Nikon

- Your Phottix Odin trigger set for Canon is not compatible at all with any Sony (or any Nikon for that matter) due to the flash language issue mentioned above. You don't mention which Phottix flash you have. You would need to purchase a separate trigger and receives that will work with Sony/Minolta flash units but the receivers (Odin II) are still not available for the newer MIS shoe units.
