Is anyone using a Canon TS-E 17mm with the Sigma MC-11

Recommended Posts

I am researching the Canon TS-E 17mm f4 lens to use for architecture. I would be interested to get some feedback from anyone using this lens with either the Metabones or Sigma adapters on either an A7ii or A7Rii body.

Are there any functional issues affecting manual focus particularly focus peaking and  focus assist magnification?

Is there any loss of sharpness?

Does auto exposure work correctly?

I would really appreciate hearing from people with first hand experience of using this lens with either of these adapters.

Many thanks.

Hi Paul, I'm using both adapters on my A7R2 with my Canons 17, 24, 45& 90mm TS-E lenses to do just that kind of work. No loss of sharpness etc. I prefer the Sigma adapter, last firmware update of the Metabones did some weird things : changing to aps crop mode without warning on the camera....Manual focussing in live view on 100% works perfect. In my opinion this combo works very good. Kind regards, Rene van der Hulst

Hello Paul

yes..i have been owning the ts 17mm for a while now and mostly on the 5d mark3. Now i use it on the sony a7r2 .... just couple of shoots and honestly i havent seen a significant difference in the image quality...yes ..definetely more details when you zoom in

But in terms of functionality no problem...using it with the metabones adapter

cheers

If you're still researching, maybe try researching the FD

version of the 17 T-S lens. You can mount it on a dumb

adapter and never worry about compatibility of firmware.

There are also Nikon versions. With dumb adapters you

have that choice. Focus peaking and magnification are

not lens dependent. I rely on both, with ancient Nikkors,

on a dumb adapter.

Hi,

I'm test it with this gear:

Canon 17mm F4 TS-E L +  Sigma MC-11 + Sony A7R.

You can read the post here: https://foto180.com/prueba-extrema-sigma-mc-11/

So, in spanish.

You will not get the same sharpness. However, the result is acceptable IMHO.

In the corners you can see the loss of sharpness.

Best,

Sebas

So, I had the A7r2 and upgraded to the R3 and sold off all of my Canon Glass and fully converted to Sony... almost... I sold my Metabones Mark 4 but also had the MC11. I kept that... then I bought the 17mm TS-e. I have the 24mm TS-e Mark I and have not yet tried that. I love the 17mm... and am learning but I ran into an issue and wondered if any of you could reproduce it. I was shooting brackets and had it at f16 and tried this in manual and aperture priority and the behavior is the same. It will take the first shot to sometimes two at f16 and then it jumps to f4. Totally ruining the bracket. Anyone having this issue? Any solutions out there? Does Metabones do the same?
