Off-Camera Flash Setup?

Recommended Posts

I have an a6300 and recently purchased a HLV-F43M for added flexibility, and enjoy it. I thought that this flash could be used off-camera and be triggered by the a6300's built-in flash. I tried the procedure in the flash operating instruction book, but could not get the camera and flash to pair up and show the "WL" icon. Is my assumption about compatibility wrong? Do I need an adapter/trigger? Or do I just not know how to follow instructions? Is there a tutorial you know of? All help appreciated.

Wow, I don't own an A6300 but would have assumed the pop up would have the ability to control an off shoe Sony flash!

I agree with username, No donuts! Sony dropped the ball on this one.

Having recently dropped money on the HLV-F43M, a cheaper option than the HVL-F32M would be the HVL-F20M. It can't be controlled via WL but it can act as a WL controller. Just saying.

Unfortunately Sony is, IMO, terribly over priced when it comes to implementing a wireless system.  Their triggers and compatible flashes run hundreds of dollars more than non branded equivalents.  I opted for Nissin Air 1 Commander, a receiver to couple my Nissin i40 and my i60 has a built in receiver.  If you want to just get the camera off flash but not wireless a cable I purchased was only around $10 and works great.  Make certain you get equipment and cables that fit the Sony multi interface shoe (another problem, the "feet" that go in that shoe are all very fragile.
