Would you sell a Zeiss 135mm f/2 APO for a 85mm 1.4 GM lens?

Recommended Posts

Last year I purchased a a7RII, SEL35F14z, and (metabones adapter +)

Zeiss 135mm f/2.0 APO. I like the 135mm lens, but I was curious what

other people would do in this situation. Thanks for any feedback.

No way ! 135 is such an ignored FL. Maybe you and I are

it's only current fans. 135 represents an important practical

threshold. Anything longer is "really long" ... meaning hard

to handle causally. The 135 takes just a bit of extra care in

focus and steadiness, but not enuf to make it a lotta work

to use. The advent of IBIS makes it almost like using a 50,

but a bit of extra care does show in the results :-) Another

favorable thing, threshold-wise is speed. I love my 135/2.8

which is rather compact vs a 200/2.8 which gets to be more

of a monster. OTOH, your 135 being a 2.0, is not especially

compact, but at a speed of 2.0, just appreciate what a 200

would represent in terms of size ... and cost.

135 was my very first non-normal lens, and maybe that has

been very formative for me. I can't imagine being without it.

70-210 is just not the same. BTW, I used to have an 85/1.4

and I don't miss it. I had a 135/2.0 and don't miss that. The

only speedy, barely-long lens I can't part with is the 105/1.8

but even that gets little use. It seems like lens speed means

less and less as sensor tech constantly progresses.
