2nd body A6000+Sigma 19 30 60 f2.8 dn art good idea?

Recommended Posts

Guys back me up on a little question I'm pondering

I'm looking for a camera for my wife. It's supposed to help her develop as a photographer. It will be used as a general all-around camera primarily for our family photos. It looks to me like the A6000 + a trio of sigma lenses f2.8 art would be a great and affordable combo.

If I go for this am I missing something by not going for sony / zeiss lenses?

I'm shooting nikon d700+16-35/4+50/1.4+70-200/4. I hope I will not be disappointed with IQ :)

Great package, features, and IQ.

My only doubt is whether constantly swapping primes

is gonna help your wife develop her photography. You

hafta be a lot more dust paranoid with a live view body

compared to an SLR, so lens swapping can become

rather tedious due to the precautions.

The ideal solution for a prime-lens-obsessed user is a

second a6000 body. You choose two lenses out of the

three and leave the third at home. This is the tradition

of the M-Leica users. M-Leicas weigh at least double

of an a6000 and cost about 20X [yes twenty]. So don't

take this as a joke cuz it's not.

You can't go wrong with the A6000 but give some thought to the lens selection. Only using primes is for advanced users who have a particular method of shooting. If you"re a developing photographer, using primes can be frustrating because you'll constantly be caught with the wrong focal length for the picture you want to take.

Consider instead going for zooms like the older Sony 18-55 and the 55-210. They'll be much more useful. Then you could add a Sony E 50/1.8 for portraits or a 35/1.8 for a normal prime. Alternatively, you could go for the 18-200 superzoom. Very easy to use and decent IQ.

The Sigmas don't make use of Sony's hybrid autofocus so in that sense the Sony lenses are better for the A6000. The Sonys also have optical stabilisation, which the Sigmas lack.
