i bought a6000 with malfunction.

i am from israel.

i bought a6000. the shop where i bought it closed a couple of days after i bought the camera.

the camera doesn't focus correctly. it mostly focuses behind the subject. most photos are out of focus. the camera is useless.

i contacted the importer of sony in my country but he says that the shop didn't buy the camera from him and that i don't have warranty.

 

what do i do now?

i can't use the camera.

Hi, Have you tried different lenses to establish if the focus problem is with the camera or with the lens?

Here in the U.K. you would get your money back if you paid by Credit Card or Visa Debit. Do you not have similar protection in Israel?

There's probably a manufacturer warranty too, so you could contact Sony.

 

The second thing is to check the camera settings. Normally, an on-sensor autofocus system shouldn't have back-focus. That's more typical of a DSLR which has a separate autofocus module.

 

Of course, there could be an issue with the lens rather than the camera. So, the previous suggesion to check with a different lens is quite good.

Just to re-enforce something mentioned above, 

focusing error is absolutely impossible for a live 

view on-sensor AF camera. The lens IS at fault. 

No AF microadjustments can be performed for 

the on-sensor AF cuz it is never required. 

   

You will find that the AF microadjuster is greyed 

out in the menu. The microadjuster feature only

comes alive if you use an LAEA2 [or-4] A-mount

converter, cuz the converter will shut down the

camera's on-sensor AF and substitute its own

SLR-type AF which is built into the converter. If 

Sony didn't offer such converters, there'd be no

microadjustment system at all in these cameras. 

   

A lens with slop in its focus drive can mimic AF 

errors. Slop is inconsistent so no adjustment or 

correction within the camera will fix the problem.

Possibly, focus could be inaccurate if the camera is set to AF-C and release priority. Then focus will be shifting around and the picture will be taken even if the camera is out of focus.

 

You could check this by changing the settings to AF-S and focus priority. Then focus will lock once and the camera will only take a picture once focus is confirmed. It's only a fraction of a second slower so it shouldn't have any negative effect on normal picture taking.

Innerressin user-error possibility there. The OP does state 

that usually the focus is more distant than the subject, and 

if the focus guide mark in the finder is allow to slip offa the 

edge of the subject in AF-C usually it lands somewhere on 

the background.

sorry for not responding sooner.
the camera is a6000. it focuses BEHIND the subject.
a lab says i have some burnt chip.
the importer of the camera won't talk to me because they say the camera wasn't bought from him (it's probably grey market).

 

there's no sulution but changing the burnt chip. and this is what i'll do.
