Sony A6500 clear image zoom

Recommended Posts

On the one hand, it is not "just" cropping by the camera. On the other hand, for stills, in my own testing, it is inferior to doing the cropping yourself even though by doing  it yourself you get half the pixels linearly and .25 for the area.

I have tested this on my a6000 and more recently on my new RX10 III.

It is useful for video, of course, but in my personal opinion, it is not as good as post-processing.  I'm not able to see enough detail in the provided images so this opinion is based on my own testing of static objects, carefully focused. I confess to being a pixel peeper for things like this.

Agreed there is a loss of detail compared to non-zoomed

images. But I seldom care about detail as long as an image

LOOKS sharp, not soft. Losing some details doesn't bother

me. I just don't miss what is not there. OTOH I do object to

seeing stuff that clearly doesn't belong there introduced into

an image. The latter includes mushiness. What I like about

Clear Image Zoom is that the details which remain .... those

that are not lost .... do appear sharp, not mushy. Photos are

illusions. If it's a credible illusion, I'm way cool with that.
