Two features and two lens updates to A6xxx

Recommended Posts

We'd all like a no-compromise camera that does everything but in the real world there are limits due to the laws of physics and company budgets. So I was thinking that when suggesting updates to the A6xxx series to limit the features to two which are achievable this year and two lenses that would sell. Note that these are what would be good for me and you of course might have a different pair of features/lens in mind. Also, I've been wondering why the A7 series gets mark 2 etc naming and whether it might be helpful for the A6xxx series to use the same and have two models, the A6000m2 and the A6500m2 (skipping the middle A6300) where the A6000m2 is light-weight and lower spec while the A6500m2 is weather sealed and higher spec (e.g. IBIS).

So the two new features for each, firstly A6000m2:

- same sensor and chip set as A6500

- screen that flips round for selfies

For A6500m2:

- customisable wheel at front of hand grip

- screen that flips round for selfies

These are all doable in an incremental update

For the lenses as I see it one advantage of the A6xxx series is to have a fully featured camera in a smaller size & weight body, so putting FE lenses on sort-of misses the point. I do rather groan every time I see another FE lens announcement. For me the two would be APSC E-mount lenses:

- 16-50 F2.8

- something long, e.g. 70-300, a bit like the current 55-210 extended by a factor of 1.5. Aperture less of an issue than resolution, weight and speed of focus, e.g. for wildlife when in remote places where don't want massive camera bag

What would your two features and lenses be?

2 features:

1.More useful set of ports under the left side cover.

2.Change the panoram from sweep mode to multi-

frame mode, but the camera still does the stitching.

This is prolly just firmware thing.

2 lenses:

Any 2 that occupy the range between el-cheapo

and primo. Sony seems to offer almost nada in the

middle ground. They concentrate on "price point"

stuff and "prestige" stuff .... neither of which serve

the real-world needs of the great majority of users.

Howbout they change the meaning of "GM" [if that

even HAS a meaning ...] to mean "Great Majority" ?

No denying Sony has a few offerings in the middle

ground, yet no denying it's sadly neglected territory.
