non sony macro choices for a7ii

Recommended Posts

what about extension tubes for the 55mm i have?

An extension tube gives you a very limited shooting range so you will need several tubes to cover the distance between the minimum distance without tubes and the minimum distance with tubes. Very cumbersome indeed.

The same applies  to macro glass that you screw on to your 55mm.

Start your learning  curve with something like an Olympus 50mm 3,5 macro which will set you back less than 100 dollars/pounds/euro including the adapter. If you do not like it you can sell i with no or little loss.

AF:

best macro is sony FE 90 but the sigma macro 105mm (and 150) hsm 2.8 for half the price is also very very good

but you need the LA-EA 4 for A7II, very fast AF!

you can use the sigma 105 as a very good portrait lens, AF is also very fast and silent

MF:

as manual lens i have the pentax macro takumar 50mm f4 M42, very good very nice one of the best legacy macro lenses and small but optically not as good as FE 90 or Sigma 105

and the Tokina AT-X macro 90mm 2.5 is also very good as manual macro lens

for macro 90mm is more convenient than 50mm but much bigger
