A7 II and A7s video with NEX glass

Recommended Posts

Hi,

As far as I know with the A7R and A7 II it is possible to use a nex glass like the SEL50f18 OSS for video and you can film in 1080 (full HD), my question for you guys is just if someone tried this with the A7s, it is possible to make also video in 1080 and in 4k with the Atomos Shogun without vignetting.

Thank you.

The A7S (I believe uniquely amongst the A7 series) uses 98-100% of the full width of its sensor for video.

At least some E lenses will therefore show near complete blackness in the corners even with the 16:9 crop.

On the plus side, all A7 cameras offer the option to shoot in APSC mode to eliminate vignetting from using E lenses on them. And we do know the 10-18mm E is suited to video throughout almost all of its range (11mm onwards, albeit with some distortion until 13mm).

Can someone measure the A7R or A7's FoV difference between photo and video modes? If they're fairly similar maybe whatever tests Ignacio has seen are also valid for the A7S after all.
