Adapter for Pentax SMC 1.4 Tackumar

Looking to adapt  SMC to a a6300 . It has a m42mm screw mount.

Two major drawbacks to cheap adapters are crappy

front flanges and crappy bayonet latches. The M42 

mount needs no latch, and the threaded front flange 

is almost impossible to screw up quality-wise.  

   

The other thing money might buy you quality-wise is 

a less reflective interior of the adapter. So don't buy 

blind on eBuy. Buy from a vendor that answers their 

phone and tell them you want an M42 adapter with 

an anti-reflection lining. You may wind up spending 

$30 instead of $15.

The adapters from K&F Concept are cheap and work very well. I have Minolta MD, Pentax K and M42 adapters from this manufacturer and all work perfectly on my A7rii and A7s. They also work well when shooting IR. I don't see any point in paying loads more for the Novoflex adapter.

I am looking for such an adepter as well (M42 to NEX) for my a6000. I've seen the following two types.

Is it possible that they both work correctly? I mean focusing at infinity etc? Has anyone tried the slim version? It does not advertise infinity focus.

 

The two above are just for reference regarding their dimensions. I understand and agree that buying blindly from ebay has its risks.

 

Are there any other brands that anyone can recommend besides K&F?

The body mount is different, so the idea I get is I don't want to have scraped shards of metal or paint near my sensor

 

The four k&f adapters you tried looked more like the first or second design?

i use a7ii and fotga m42 adapter, this cheap adapter has no lip/flange so it is very useful for using the much older m42 lenses,

older m42 lenses back element protrudes into the adapter hitting the flange or lip of other adapters damaging the back element.

if you get a fotga make sure you order one with a hex key for adjusting/correcting how the lens sits ,which is easily adjusting by undoing 

the 3 lugs  .

KF are much better built but have the lip not sure about the new ones

Sorry, only just seen your reply... the adapter I have is the second one.It works very wll indeed, even in infrared (some adapter coatings don't work with IR)

The interior coating of some adapters allow light to reflect off the inside of the adapter. I have had 3 adapters where this is a real problem in infrared.

Interior anti-reflection treatment. My dumb. My mind went right 

to optical coatings, which acoarst also deal with reflections and 

I knew you meant an empty tube adapter, not a SpeedBooster 

adapter with optics.   

     

This still leaves me a question. What you refer to as "problems 

with IR" is not especially limited to IR. Reflective inner walls are 

gonna be just as much grief with visible spectrum, no ? IR was 

a much bigger challenge, reflection-wise, when it was film, cuz 

it had no anti-reflection light-absorbent anti-halation coating on 

the back of the film [there we go with "coatings" again]. AAMOF 

I don't bother with digital IR shooting cuz the highlight bleeding 

on film [halation from bounce-back] was a major part of the fun !   

   

I can imagine that some interior coatings are not IR-opaque so 

maybe the IR bounces off of the metal tube wall, where visible

spectrum does not ? Is that the coating problem ? Maybe the 

interior blacking in some lenses is also ineffective with IR ? That 

acoarst would also happen equally with film as with digital, altho 

digital might be "more than equally" ... cuz if there's scatter from 

the lens walls, then you have the shiny sensor pack bouncing it 

back up to the rear element and back to the sensor again, but at  

least film wasn't shiny-as-glass.  

   

Maybe consider giving up tubes and glass altogether, and just

mount a pinhole into body cap :-) Longer waves !

thank you for your replies. I got a cheap 7$ no name adapter which holds the lens on the camera firmly, but makes the distance scale a bit off. I'll keep the k&f in mind just in case.

I should have said that the K&F adapters are the only cheap ones I have been happy with....but if the one you have works, no problem. Watch out for paint/coatings scraping off the adapter when you attach it to the camera. The K&F ones I have bought have never had this problem as they are anodized but two other cheap ones did.

Being a long-time Pentax shooter, I have quite a few Pentax K-mount and M42 lenses as well as several M42-to-K adapter rings. So when I got my a6000 I got only the K-to-E adapter, and I attach the M42 lenses to it using the adapter rings. That way only one lens adapter is needed for both K and M42 lenses. If you want to do that I recommend getting the genuine Pentax adapter rings. They're more expensive ($35-40), but they fit the K mount better and have less chance of getting hung up in the K adapter than the knockoff brands do.

Forgot to say, most of my adapters are K&F, although I have one Kiwi for Nikon F and one generic for LTM. I'm very happy with the K&F adapters, but I haven't used the Kiwi enough to make a final judgment.

Thanks nerp! k&f adapters seem to be getting lots of love! I don't have different pentax lenses, so different adapters are not an issue. I just want to gather opinions about brands which make adapters that function properly, keeping the distance scale indicating correct values (for zone focusing, hyperfocal distance etc).
