Samyang 50mm f1.4 AFq

After spending days agonising over which 50mm to buy, and lucky for us there is so much choice for the E-mount, I finally went for the Samyang.

There were arguments both sides. On the top end the Sony 1.4 is lovely but its heavy and 3x the cost at gives me slightly sharp f1.4 centre, better corners up to f5.6 and that lovely Zeiss T* 3D look. At the other end was the 50mm f2.8 macro.

The look of the Samyang photos has really won we over. Its sharp from f1.4 but tack by f2.8, that's the compromise over the Sony. In some ways a fine compromise for portraits. The build quality is really good and the focus is fast. There is a soft whine to the focus which I find cool but maybe videographers would prefer MF with this lens. The more I use it the more I am pleased I bought it. It has a 3D pop of its own which is lovely and the colours are great. Now I have something left in my pocket for a 35mm or 28mm ...... hmmm .....
