getting sony a7 apps with mac?

Recommended Posts

trying to get an app for the sony a7r2 using a macbook pro 10.11 with safari 9.

I get the downloader must be installed message - then that doesn't work so click on the like to install for mac have done that restarted computer

next time I return to the https://www.playmemoriescameraapps.com site and I'm back to square one, when I try and download the app it puts me in the must get downloader and that fails again

is it possible to get apps for the sony alpha camera using a mac? and if so how?

any insights, suggestions or help would be very appreciated.

thanks,

Don't recall needing to install anything on the Mac to get the apps on the camera. The apps get installed directly to the phone via wifi if I remember correctly. I can access the Sony store on the camera from home here and the Mac is 9 miles away. I'll verify when I get to the shop tomorrow.

OK. Here's the deal. You must allow download of 'non-trusted' apps to your computer. (Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.) You'll get a "PMCADownloader.pkg" file. Run the installer. Restart the computer. If there's a PlayMemories Camera Apps on the camera I believe you can get the apps directly to the phone using that. It's been a while since I did any of this so i don't remember how I got there but I can access the Sony camera apps store directly from the camera and never use the computer for any app transfer.

thanks for the help,  tried all that still no dice.  I think it's weird Sony puts some of their software Playmemories on the Apple App store but not incorporating everything for a seamless user experience.  In any case I followed your advice and just connected the camera via the wireless (PITA typing in the passwords) and got the app. However until this is fixed I won't be buying  any apps for the camera and would really like the TL one - although every camera out today seems to have that feature for free.

Anyways, I truly appreciate you taking the time and responding to my question.

Thank you

jeff

I've tried all kinds of work arounds, but never could get apps to load onto my camera with my Mac. Luckily my wife has an old cheap PC laptop that I can use, which works easily. Sony really should fix this or risk allienating a lot of Mac users.
