Dear friends,

I just "inherited" all these Nikon lenses and I wondered if there are any reliable adapters to use them on my Sony a6000 camera...

Thank you so much for the feedback!

Congratulations on your inheritance!  I can't answer your question about the adapter, but all of the "D" Nikon lenses use a mechanical screw drive to focus the lens elements.  Some Nikon camera models have a focus motor built in to the camera body to operate the screw drive.  Later AF-S lenses have the focus motor built into the lens.

I am new to the Sony product line, but have used Nikon equipment for a long time.  I doubt you will find an adapter to make use of the focus screw drive, but you should be able use the lenses by manually focusing them.  The PC lens (perspective control) is a unique lens in this collection and should be completely manual.

For what it's worth, the 16mm fisheye lens is still marketable if the lens is complete with the four filters and separate filter case.  I sold mine last year for $500.

The DC 135/2 AFD is a special lens too.

The Commlite/Vello AF adapter should pass along EXIF data, since there are electronic contacts but will not AF any of these lenses.

If you don't care about that much, then just about any F to E adapter should work MF.

The only lens there thaz NOT special to some degree is

the 28-105 general purpose zoom normal lens, aka "kit

lens". Pretty much justifies buying a Nikon FF body. I'm

basically a Sony camera user with a lot of Nikon lenses,

and almost no Sony lenses. Much as I enjoy the Sony

cameras, I also wound up with a new Nikon D610. It's a

really good camera, same price as an a7-MkII and you

don't need an adapter. I don't even like SLRs, but all my

old Nikkors are fully functional on the D610, more than I

can say for any adapter available for Nikkor to Sony-E.

As I've mentioned, all but one of those lenses is rather

special, but only when used for full frame format. As an

example, you have a 28/1.4. On FF it's a very fast true

wide angle. But on APSC it's just a huge bulky normal

lens, still fast, but waaaay bigger than is reasonable for

the APSC format. Even the fisheye won't be fisheye any

more, just an ordinary medium speed wide angle with a

reeeeally objectionably visible case of barrel distortion :-(

    • I recently got an a7cii and to pair with the compact body, I thought of getting 2 of the trio compact lenses, 24mm F2.8 and 40mm F4.0. (I already have a 70-200mm) However I stumbled upon the newly released 24-50mm F2.8 G. I'm not sure which to get - I like the small factor of the prime lenses ON the body because it's discreet and helps me blend in as an average tourist / doesn't make it obvious when doing street. But if I add the dimensions of the 2 primes together, it takes up more space in the bag than the zoom lens. BUT THEN, the weight of the 2 prime lenses is 110g lesser than the zoom lens. The zoom lens has the added benefit of being more versatile.   So now I'm stumped. Each has their pros and cons and I can't decide which to get. I'd like to hear the views of you guys who are more experts at this.   Edit: I'm a bit concerned about weight because the last time I went overseas my shoulders were aching from carrying too much. Which is why I was looking for small compact primes in the first place.
    • Hi, I have got a6300 which shutter stopped working. I managed to change shutter but unfortunatelly broke shutter motor tape but I fixed that. After repair the shutter is working but not in a proper way, watch with sound. I bought the second shutter and tried to test it before dissaembling again and it doesn't react to magnet but it works fine when I apply 3V. Are there different type of shutter for a6000 - a6400? Back to the question what is wrong with my shutter after first repair? I don't want to put next shutter unfoundedly. Do your sony cameras perform such a self-check after start up?  IMG_5579 (1).webm
