Hi Sony Peeps,

I have switched from canon to Sony A7II.
I have the canon 17-40mm L and
canon mount 90mm macro by Tamron and are using via the metabones EF-E mark IV.

Both the metabones and the Sony A7II have both been updated with latest firmware (today).

Issue I’m having is both Steadyshot & Focus Magnifier are greyed out with both these lenses. Steadyshot & Focus Magnifier work with the Sony FE 24-240mm. I never read anywhere before that these features aren't available with non-sony glass rather this was a talked up feature for using legacy glass on the e-mount system.

This is very frustrating as defeats the benefits of the Sony and the marketing saying you can use adapted glass.

Has anyone come across this issue before and / or know how to resolve it ??

Many thanks

By steady shot, I'm assuming you mean IBIS. I have an A7ii with the Metabones EF-E mkiv smart adapter and, like you came from Canon. I own a variety of Zeiss Contax mount lenses, Leica R lenses and Canon (24 2.8 IS, 50 STM, 70-200 f4, 100L, 200Lii) lenses. How do you know that the system is not running IBIS? you should be able to tell with the 90 Tamron that it's stabilising the image? Most of us set up the A7ii to customise buttons or set up Function buttons to turn on or off the IBIS, and to set the focal length of adapted lenses. Have you worked that bit out yet? The Tamron is listed as performing well with the Metabones, but I can't see any entry for the 17-40 so can't comment, others might chirp in. Next, I'm assuming you're using these in AF mode, that you have the lenses set to AF, and therefore the IBIS and focus magnify will be automatically set. Have you set the focus mode to PDAF? I don't know about the 17-40, nor the Tamron, but the IBIS works well with my only Tele zoom, the 70-200, I don't set anything, in terms of if I'm at 70, 100, or 180mm it somehow knows the focal length and just works. The image is stabilised. Focus magnify on the other hand ONLY works when you set the lens to manual focus. It does not work with adapted lenses in AF mode. You also need to tell the Sony you are shooting in manual focus, and I custom set the AF/MF-AEL switch to do this on my camera. Sing out if you are having issues with setting Custom buttons and or function settings, again, once you get the hang of it it's very nice, but the initial steps Felt awkward when I first bought in. So when I want to do manual focus work, I want to focus magnify, and so if it's an AF lens you need to set it to MF as well. So there are a couple of initial thoughts, hopefully you have these sorted by now. The Sony system is a bit clunky when you first start with it, then it becomes intuitive. I love the camera, and it takes fantastic images. Let us know how you get on.

Another way to think of it, is with the Metabones, the Sony is pseudo treating your lenses as "native" to an extent. So they are not acting as "legacy" lenses whilst in AF. In MF mode (both body and lens) they act as legacy glass.

Hi Guys, thanks for your responses. The UPDATE:

I have been able to get the Focus Magnifier to work as Trad said, turns out you need to set the lens switch to MF to enable this feature of the A7II. Coming from Canon i'm use to being able to override with manual focus even with AF on, but guess this ability isn't supported by other manufacturers, something to get use to.

With the IBIS i have also got this to work. Originally i had the "SteadyShot Adjust" set to "Auto" (In Camera Settings - Tab 7). By setting this to "Manual" it then allows me to turn the IBIS "SteadyShot" to "ON" and then select the Focal Length.

Some much fiddling with menu settings, but in the end, all working fine and achieving sharp handheld shot on 90mm down to 1/10 sec.

Cheers
