These look great! I wonder if you find the lens a bit too big for the A7II, compared to the older legacy lenses out there. I assume there could be a pretty good 85mm available from  Minolta or similar. I'm debating going with the Samyang, but since all my current lenses are a lot smaller, and that's why I moved away from Canon, I'm not sure I want to go back to big lenses...

the minolta should be excellent from F 1.4 reading the reviews, but it´s not cheap, found one here for 800€ http://www.ebay.de/itm/Minolta-AF-1-4-85mm-Portrait-Tele-Ofenrohr-Objektiv-Sony-Alpha-Carl-Zeiss-/181665536273?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_77&hash=item2a4c1c1911

for that price you could also save up your money and pay for the amazing Zeiss Batis 85mm with autofocus

The Samyang is not that big and heavy as you might think, you could order it from amazon and try it out for 2 months (send it back if you don´t like) + you don´t need an adapter

I still like the samyang for the look of the pictures and also the sharpness is really good, most of the time i´m using f1.8-2.0, autofocus is not an issue for me, but i´m very keen on how the batis lense will performe

Yeah. AF is not a factor in my decision making. I'm all manual anyway on the A7II. The Batis is most definitely on my list, but it's 4 times the price of this Samyang. I'm really impressed with the pics you posted in this thread. So the Samyang is definitely very interesting. Like I said, size and weight are my only concerns...It does come in at about 600g+ (whereas the Batis, for example is something like 340g).

I think I might give the Samyang a try anyway. Like you said, it's easy enough to try it out from Amazon.

thx :-)

shure give it a shot, the samyang also does a great job on video @ F1.4, tried it yesterday with custom picture profile and additional grading in premiere pro cc, the result is just great with the a7II

i will post some video example soon

Here is a second Video i made, this Time Picture Profile 5, detail all the way down to -7, color-2, look: cinema

I can really recommend these settings when shooting outside, you get a lot more details and sharpness,

Editing and aditional grading, sharpening in premiere cc
