Wanting to buy a6300 - but have questions

Recommended Posts

I am seriously looking at trading in my canon 60D and buying an a6300.

A few questions i have though are:

-Is there a battery grip that is coming out for the a6300? I know there is one by Vivitar for the a6000 but it does not work properly on the a6300. i want to be able to buy a dedicated grip for the a6300.

-Does the fotodiox ef to e mount adapter work well? seeing a lot of good reviews on B and H but wanting some opinions from here. i have a good collection of canon lenses that i would love to use on the a6300.

-is it worth getting the 16-50mm kit lens? what intrigues me is the power zoom function, and the good focal length range. i have a canon 16-35mm f2.8L mk I though, so is it worth the extra $ to get the kit lens? I do a lot of mixed photography and video work with the 16-35 being my main workhorse.

-what are the ESSENTIAL accessories to get with the a6300? things that you absolutely NEED to get the best out of the camera.

Thank you SO MUCH in advance guys!

I made the transition from a Canon 60D to the a6300 and love the camera. I've got the Sony 16-70mm f/4 as my walk-around lens, the Sony 90mm f/2.8 macro for portraits & macros, and just got the Sony 70-300mm telephoto (last night - haven't used it yet). I haven't tried any of the power zoom lenses but prefer to have control of the zoom so probably wouldn't get one. I've got 2 batteries and I'd consider that the absolute minimum - I'll be getting 1 or 2 more and/or one of those larger battery packs that plug in via USB. Hope this helps.

Right. Batteries are that "essential" thing as asked about in the OP.

There is a recent forum post , don't recall exactly where, in which

the user says his fotodiox adapter works with his EF lens but that

his EF-S lens won't even physically mount on it.

All non-OEM battery grips are suspect, Many users have no trouble

but some experience various things from trouble with only certain

features to toadall uselessness.

If you do video much, realize that the contacts in the multipurpose

shoe on a Sony csn often fail to play nice with non-Sony stuff.

I loooove my a6000, but I use it as a rather straightforward stills

camera. I don't engage many of the modern features. It's just my

"digital film holder" that replaces my old analog "film holders". All I

can recommend about it is basic ergonomics [compact size, really

nice EVF, which is spozedly even better on a 6300], excellent user

customizable interface [bBAF is big deal for me], etc etc ... plus it

makes really good looking images. Note I avoid the term "IQ". If it

looks good, it IS good as far a my assessment of imaging quality.

Maybe someone who really puts one thru its paces can tell you a

lot more about geeky stuff [if you care ?], and about video. I still

use Canons for video ,,, just cuz I still have some, and have no

other use for them. For still photo I stick with my Sonys, of which

the a7-II and is my "king" but the a6000 ranks as "crown prince".

And has with human kings and princes, the king only comes out

for really major events while the crown prince goes everywhere

and is always up to something :-)
