Auto Switch between EVF and Monitor stopped working (A7R II)

Recommended Posts

Last night mid shooting, my A7R II stopped automatically switching between EVF and monitor. When set to auto, it stays in the EVF no matter what I do.

Has anyone experienced this/have any ideas how to fix it? The proximity sensor looks clean.

Maybe it only LOOKS clean ? If you clean it

then you know for sure that it's really clean.

BTW, if you manually [by menu] set it to use

only the monitor, does that work ? If you can't

turn on the monitor intentionally like that, then

it would seem it needs repair. Otherwise this

might be a firmware issue. Often enuf such a

malfunction is corrupted FW, meaning you'll

hafta reload the FW ... which acoarst is NOT

fun, and is not a guaranteed fix :-(

Thanks for the reply.

So, it still wasn't working when I made the OP, but now it is. I didn't clean the sensor, but I did change the battery (which was towards the low end of capacity). I wonder if that's related.

FWIW - when the auto switch was not working, the manual settings both were.

Sounds like you've resolved the problem, but just as an FYI, I've had the same problem repeatedly when the proximity sensor is dusty.  Also, the Hoodman eyecup causes the EVF/LCD switch to not work very well, or at all.  I like the Hoodman for bright sunlight usage, but otherwise, I'll mount the original eyecup.
