sony a57 blurs perfectly clear shots in "m" mode

Hey everybody!

So this is the problem. It only happens in manual mode. I take the shot - and it's perfectly clear on the display. It shows up on the display post-shot - and it's clear... and then it starts to blur out. What is causing this? Is this some mode or effect i'm not aware of? If so, tell me how to get rid of it..

P.S. This is not a too long exposure issue..

It certainly sounds like an effect of the 'Potrait' mode, though I wouldn't be able to describe it as I don't use them myself.

I do know it blurs the background though. Perhaps it blurs everything it calculates is not a figure, which would be the whole scene for a landscape shot, for example.

No suggestion above addresses the peculiarity of this

happening only in manual mode. That is tooooo weird.

It sounds like just maybe a problem with the monitor,

but I cannot image why it's linked to the use of the

manual mode. Anywho, first eliminate the monitor as

a variable and review your shots only in the viewfinder.

Also, review your shots on your PC, direct from the

card, eliminating the camera if both the monitor and

the viewfinder exhibit this weird behavior.

Very often, unexplainable behavior is user error but

again, this is difficult at a distance/online due to the

multiplicity of settings/features/modes/etc

I still cannot accomodate how this is linked to use of

the manual mode only. But OTOH you provide very

little info and there are soooo many variables, and

we are not in the same room with the device. Not to

blame you for the minimal info, as the variables are

quite vast. There's a feature somewhere in the menus

called [iIRC] "Initialize". It will reset ALL user settings

back to factory defaults. If you're OK with undoing all

customizing you may have set on the camera, this is a

sure way to eliminate user error in how you've adjusted

and set up the camera. If you bought a used camera

then initializing it is usually necessary.

IIRC Portrait mode overrules Manual mode.

Just a random idea:

Reset the auto-review time to a much longer

duration. Also reset it to no auto-review time

at all, so you hafta press the playback button

to get a review. The results of this testing

may, or may not, lead toward a solution.

I don't recognise this problem, although I don't have the a57.

What are your basic image settings in the camera and how do the images look when you import them on you computer?
