A6XXX as a Second body?

Recommended Posts

Im considering picking up a second body.... and the a6300 or a6000 seems like a great choice, Fast af, high fps. A great compliment to what my a7ii lacks.

What do you guys think?

It would be nice to have the crop factor with my 70-200 as well to bump it to 300mm

Im not familiar with the a6300 or a600. Do the Sony full frame lenses  (i currently have the sony 28F2, 28-70(Kit) 70-200F4) work well with the crop sensors?

Any advice appreciated.

thanks.

I bought an A6000 for just this purpose. It's a good match with the A7 series and uses all the same lenses though I also have the SEL 18-200mm and the very small 16-50mm kit lens.An  A6000 is a good price new but I picked mine up used though virtually as new at a real bargain price.

For some reason the A6000 and 18-200mm has become my most used combination though I would never expected it to be so when I bought it.

I'm in the exact same boat. Love my a7II but would like the extra fps, faster af, and reach of the a6300. The reason I'll spend the extra money on the 6300 over the a6000 is the ability to use the Laea3 adapter for my existing sigma 70-200. The firmware upgrade on the a7II made the af SO much better with the Laea3 than using the Laea4 that I'd want that option on the a6300. If I'd buy an a6000 I think I'd only be happy if I bought the new GM 70-200/2.8 as well... and I simply can't justify it. Adapting what I have makes more financial sense. PDAF is the only way to go IMHO. All FE lenses should work great on the a6300... it never hurts to have too much glass.

Thanks for the replies everyone. I think either the 6000 or 6300 will be a good choice.

I agree, I can't justify the 70-200 2.8. For now I'll stick with my f4. It already gets me stunning image quality.

I currently have these Sony bodies: A7, a6000, RX10, RX100M3, and A77ii. I feel that the a6000 is by far the best value of all current Sony ILC's and will likely become an even better deal as prices drop in light of the a6300 introduction. I'm considering the a6300 at "the poor man's A7rii" as has been stated in some blogs by Sony Artisans; however, if I do pick one up, I'll definitely keep the a6000 as a second body to the a6300. I regularly use the SEL18200, SEL1018, and FE lenses like the FE 28 f/2 (with and without 21mm WA conversion lens), and my favorite FE 70-200 f/4 on my a6000. I get great results with the FE lenses on my a6000.

Thanks for the review! That's awesome to hear that fe lenses not only work, but work well on the a6000. I'll just need to make a decision on if I wanna spend 600$ on the a6000, or justify the extra money on the a6300. Wouldn't that be nice if it came with ibis though :P

I currently have an a6000 which started as my "travel" camera backed up with an Nex 6 with the Sony Zeiss 16-70mm f4 and the Sony 10-18mm f4. I recently swopped my Canon 5D2 for an A7 for which I have the FE 24-70mm f4 and FE 16-35mm f4. Quite honestly for the shooting that I do, I think I'm getting better results with the a6000 set-up. I was optimistic about the a6300 to go back to a lightweight two body travel kit until I saw the release price in the UK, £1000 (which is about $1445). I can get another a6000 and a prime FE lens for less than £1000, which is what I think I shall do. Given the US price of $1000 I had expected the UK price to be around £799. Looking at the specifications of the a6300 against the a6000, unless you shoot action or wildlife, or need to shoot 4K video, the a6000 is still the best value interchangeable lens camera on the market.
