Sony Alpha 7S II scan line issue

Hi all, was testing out my new Alpha 7s II and I noticed I was getting these weird sort of scan lines while recording. My initial thought is it might be the light source, which is a Hue LED light bulb, hopefully I didn't receive a dud camera.

Here's a link to some test footage with the problem:

I would say that is typical of LED lights. I have them in my kitchen and also had this issue at Christmas with the LED lights on the tree which looked as if they were flickering on and off. I found if I lowered my shutter speed to 1/80 or below, the lines/flicker disappeared.

Experiment. Not a duff camera in my opinion.

Likewise I keep my LED lit interior shooting

down to 1/30 if possible. When I hafta shoot

some stills at 1/50 +/-, due to motion/action, I'll

use high speed continuous shooting. 1/50 thru

1/80 are borderline risky. Most frames will be

problem free, but not every frame. Thus I get

"insurance frames" with high speed continuous.

At 1/30 [60 cycle AC] you don't need insurance

frames, but it can be too slow for action. Any

speed above 1/80 is really risky for my A72. If

you have a different A7 version, your shutter

blades may travel a bit faster but the useable/

safe shutter speeds won't be hugely faster.

I spoze the video scan lines will vary somewhat

depending on your chosen frame rate, but don't

blame the camera. It's definitely the household

LEDs. Studio grade LED lighting uses a more

sophisticated AC-DC power conversion.
