a7000?

Hi all,

this is my first post here. I have left two months ago with no camera and I really feel I need one new one

Since I own quite a lot of e mount lenses (Aps-c) I have to see an upgrade with the aps-c bodies.

 

I am currently between picking either a6000 or a nex-7.  I find the a6000 to have major interface improvement but still I like more the button layout of nex-7. I like the nex-7 built and the twin dials and the EVF.

On the other side the a6000 has a better menu interface and a hot shoe.

 

My major concern though is if I would wait for the a7000. I recall rumors were announcing this camera to be announce somewhere between late of January and beginning of Februaruy but really did not find anythin the last days.

Do you have a clue what are the current status of the a7000 (or the nex7 successor?)

Hi Alex,

 

The truth is no-one knows for sure: Sony showed with the A7 II that they can keep a new camera secret right until the week of release if they choose.

 

 

My take: the A6000 has been out for 9 months so isn't due for replacement - Sony's flagship APS-C bodies tend to get replaced every 12-16 months.

 

-If an "A7000" is shown at the CP+ show (12-15th February) it'll therefore be sold alongside A6000, at an appreciably higher price point than A6000's now-discounted street price.

 

-If it isn't, you'll be waiting anything from 3 to 7 months for an "A6100" successor.

 

 

If you had a camera I'd say wait until the 12th Feb. But since you don't I'd play with A6000 extensively at a store again, consider it's minor weaknesses which a successor might improve on*, and buy one if you still enjoy it nonetheless.

 

*It's lack of IBIS + touchscreen + level, the average quality EVF, and only low bitrate (28M) video recording.

Thanks for the great reply... To be honest I like good viewfinders

and for some reason that super crazy auto focus is something I really crave for.

How low light auto focus compares to the nex-7 works?

I don't have any direct experience with the NEX-7 but I gather focus flexibility and speed in all conditions is the number one improvement the A6000 brings versus the older model. This video shows it clearly.

 

While it's the best available in normal light, A6000 AF performance drops to merely "well above average" in low light. This can be easily mitigated by using this Sony A6000 Quick Tip from Lavikka Photography.

I am thinking of buying an A6000......... Is the suggestion to wait until 12Feb to see if there is an upgrade release?

Current discounting of the A6000 would suggest that stocks are being cleared for a new version?

A year ago the A6000 was getting high praise left,right and centre. In other words it's still a very good camera today. Everything gets ramped up as the next best thing, perceived digital obsolescence encourages this. Wait until the 12th, if a new model is announced then you can decide whether the premium is worth getting over what will now be a well dismounted 'old' model.

Case in point Fuji XPro-1, £1,300 on release £315 for a Fuji refurb. And if the 2 model becomes reality expect further price drops.
