Sony Pyramid

Do Sony say that there is room for only ONE camera (E-mount) on the top? Did they achieve a great improvement in the on-chip AF performance and got it close to that of DSLR  even with the existing A-mount lenses? Then one could happily use the A-mount lenses with a simple wired adapter (not the expensive, bulky, fragile and light-consuming E-LA4). And eventually no need for the company to develop two product lines!

Another option is to go for the sensor Z-shift AF for ALL lenses. Can not wait to see what they did. Though I guess that they will reserve the Z-shift for the future.

You mean that only the A-Mount Lenses should be developed? I think it is the size, which will kill the A-Mount om long term. Not only the larger diameter but also the distance between lense and sensor is different and therefore A-Mount can never become as small as E-Mount.

No, I did not mean that. If my suggestion is right, the A-mount lenses and bodies will be discontined (if there is not any limitation to the lens optical design to the E-mount geometry, otherwise we may see some new A-mount lenses in the future too). But Sony ought to offer new bodies to the existing A-mount lens owners. And it will be the "new" E-mount series (new in that it will remain the ONLY one). They already implemented the IBIS in the E-series, and a Sony rep said they considered the improvement of the AF performance a priority. That is all they need to skip the A-series altogether.

I've always wondered why the AF adapters need their SLT mirror.

Since the body behind the adapter has it's own AF sensing, why

can't the data from the in-body AF sensor instruct the drive motor

in the adapter for the older A-mount/Maxxum lenses ?
