Capture One Pro 8 Film Simulations

Recommended Posts

thanks to fleckintosh

who was so nice to post at the fuji x forum

the ICC Profile that emulate the Fuji Film simulation from the XT1

provia, velvia, classic chrome,....etc

http://www.fuji-x-forum.com/topic/1631-capture-one-pro-8-film-simulations/

it is possible to use them with other cameras as well

here is a workaround for mac users to use it with Sony A7, NEX-7, etc

1. download the emulation ICC Profiles from the fuji x forum

2. rename the ICC Profiles ...... for example   .......from...... "FujiXT1-Classic Chrome Adobe RGB.icc" to "SonyA7-Classic Chrome Adobe RGB.icc" or "SonyNEX7-Classic Chrome Adobe RGB.icc" or.......

3. copy the ICC Profiles to: Capture One/Contents/Frameworks/AppCore.framework/Resources/Profiles/Input

reboot capture One and have fun

ICC profiles need a specific input to work correctly... Sure, you can use the ICC with this hack, but it won't give you the same results at all... The ICC is just simple math: for a specific real color, it knows how the color will be captured, and this captured color is transformed to one chosen in the ICC to ressemble what Velvia (for example) would look like when the real color has been captured.

However, Sony and Fuji have radically different sensors, therefore the same shade of real green won't render the same, and the colors in the ICC will be off...

yes that is correct Adrien

as Fuji emulates a analog film with digital processing

you can not expect to have the same result as the real analog film

but it is fun and the output is pleasing and helpful

and as fleckintosh said the fuji emulation and the ICC capture one pro emulation is very close:

"The profiles work very good for me. I compared with ooc images (Same RAW) and noticed just very little differences. Very little. "

sorry !

fleckintosh´s statement was relating to a real XT1

so yes the output on a A7 will be a little different

but i can not see any difference between A7 and Nex-7 so we should not expect to have the same emulation

but as I said the root is the real film so we have to adjust a little bit, with grain and curves and....

so on the end we don´t want it to be the real thing...we like to have it.... so that it is great ......and we like it

Can someone post these profiles on this forum so I don't have to register for another forum to download?

3D LUT transforms can be multiplied together, so if someone had both the XT1 and an A7/S/R/RII and a color chart they could in theory create a LUT to convert between the XT1 and A7 sensor, then just multiply that LUT by these film profile LUTs to get an accurate result for the Sony cameras. If anyone has a Macbeth chart and these cameras I could help with creating such a transform (here's a quick tutorial on how they work: http://wolfcrow.com/blog/how-to-use-the-dsc-labs-oneshot-x-rite-colorchecker-or-datacolor-spydercheckr-with-davinci-resolve-to-match-color/)

Also, if anyone is interested in the workflow for accomplishing this, you can use Davinci Resolve (free) and/or the software sold for incredibly reasonable prices on this site (http://www.brizsoft.com/lut-converter/).

    • I'd use Focus Area: (Expand) Flexible Spot: S instead of Center. Smaller focus area and more control over where to focus. https://helpguide.sony.net/ilc/1710/v1/en/contents/TP0001653124.html
    • New Sony user here, trying to get my head around all of the differences from Fuji 😬  I’ve figured out most of the settings, but can’t find any answers on how to do a custom white balance for studio flash. The custom setting option only seems to be based on measuring ambient light. The only workaround I can think of is to set an approximate kelvin value and then shoot a grey card and fix it in post, but I’d much prefer to get it right in camera.    camera is an A7CR TIA Vinnie
    • I am not sure what effect you are trying to achieve regarding the bluish cast of the water.  Do you want to neutralize it or enhance it?  It would be best if you Google polarizer filter for camera and look at the images and videos and see if you can find the desired effect that seem to mirror your situation.  If you can't find the effect you are looking for, it may not be possible to do so with the Polarizer.  I use the polarizer to minimize the shimmering reflections in the water that would look distracting in the image. Neutral density filters are used to reduce the amount of light coming into the camera.  If you want to shoot a small waterfall and you want to create an angel veil effect by reducing the shutter speed to seconds but the light conditions won't allow you to do so, you can use neutral density filters to shoot at very slow shutter speeds. Neutral density and polarizing filters can get very expensive.  If your lenses share a common filter size, that would be great.  If not, get the filters for the largest filter diameter lens and get a set of stepping rings to use with your smaller filter diameter lenses.
