Best settings A7RII - first attempt

Yesterday I received my A7RII with Zeiss Batis 25.

Coming from an RX1 I am somewhat familiar with its settings, but it is far more complicated than I thought it would be.

That is partly due to the rather primitive Sony user manual.
I hope that I will get some help via this Forum!

I have introduced the settings to separate AF from the shutter button:

AEL Button: AF/ON

AF/MF Button: AF/MF ctrl Toggle

AF w/Shutter OFF

When I move the lever (right of top LCD) up to AF/MF this will enable the selection of either AF or MF.

When thereafter this lever is moved down to AEL-position can AF or MF be used, whereby in position AF pressing the small center button will result in AF.

My question is, what is the purpose of the "large central button", if used, switching AEL on and off?

For what purpose is this?

I have no idea why this suddenly has become an AEL button that can be switched off and on?

Is this necessary and can I not use this central button for some more useful purpose?

Thanks for reply!

Harry

In many countries the manual that comes with the camera

is an abridged one. You have to go to the site and download

the full manual........

Certainly true about my N. American version A7M2. The full

manual is a PDF, much easier to use than a paper version,

due to the bookmark feature of PDF.

For new noobs, I also recommend a 3rd party bible from your

fave bookseller. There's usually 3 or 4 to choose among.

Do you have titles of good books about the A7RII?

Thanks!
