Hello all,

could someone please tell me how the following lens's would work with my A7?

I understand they are e-mount, but as far as I can tell they are not full-frame, so I want to know...will the 50mm act like a 75, and the 35 act like a 50mm? And will they end up as cropped images or would they in fact be full frame just a larger .mm because of the size of the sensor?

thank you !

Not sure I follow your question, but ....

Imagine you had proper full frame 50 and 35mm

lenses mounted on the A7. And you crop all your

shots, in post, down from 24x36 to 16x24mm, so

that your view is narrowed, and half of your pixel

supply is discarded. Thaz what you get by using

'E' lenses on your 'EF' camera .... functional but

definitely compromised.

The lenses will work fine, but you won't be getting your maximum megapixals/resolution.

OR

You can set the camera for full frame mode and you will see black corners in your photos.  Like these examples below:

http://www.imaging-resource.com/news/2013/11/08/heres-how-the-sony-a7-shoots-using-aps-c-lenses

Setting the camera to APS-C mode will remove the dark corners as the camera will only be using the part of the sensor that equates to APS-C size..

Summary:  It will work ok, but not as good as a full frame FE lens.

Aperture stays the same, f1.8 is f1.8 on either camera.

My experience with a couple of APS-C lenses on FF is consistent with with Austerror's very nice samples.

Using APS-C mode takes an APS-C frame right out of the middle of the FF image without vignetting. That would make your images work right out of the camera.

Thank you both for your replies ! I guess

I just have to decide whats worth it...

but what I still don't know is, will the f1.8

turn into a 2.8 on my full frame and APS-C

options, so these lens's CANT be 1.8 on

my Sony A7?

Consider what I told you. Exactly like cropping in post,

except it happens in the camera. Would cropping an

image in post alter the effective aperture of your lens ?

[You answer that for yourself ... ]

Now about f/1.8 [let's call it f/2.0] possibly being f/2.8 ...

because you are essential cropping, and by necessity

therefor enlarging [to fill the same print area] you will

find the opposite effect on your depth of field. A shot

at f/2.0 has the DOF of f/1.4 [not f/2.8], a loss of DOF

due to increased enlargement.

OK, thaz DOF, but exposure-wise, a stop is a stop. It

won't change numbers.
