Sony SAL70400G2 + Sony 1.4 converter

Hello!

 

I'm using the A99 with the Sony SAL70400G2. Being interested in the Sony 1.4 teleconverter I'd like to know wether someone here already tried that. According to Sony there's no AF functionality but I heard it could work in some cases

I do own a Sony 2x teleconverter and as advertised by Sony, it doesn't support AF with my SAL70400.

This is due the limitation (on Sony TCs) that the max aperture has to be larger than f/8.

 

All reviews & forum threads I've seen had the same behavior for both TCs with the 70-400mm.

Not sure if AF would still work on the lower end of the focal range for the 1.4x, but I seriously doubt it. Sony probably just shuts it off when it detects the lens.

 

Other 3rd party teleconverters do not exhibit the same restriction, but AF tends to get slow (and I guess you'd get serious hunting/AF lock problems at least on the 2x, due to the f/11 max aperture), if it works.

Thank you! I thought the limit was f/8 hence my question about the TC 1.4. Pity!
